Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date is finally here and thousands of players are currently delving into Ubisoft’s latest open-world adventure. 

On March 20, 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released on console and PC. Despite the controversy surrounding Yasuke and the historical inaccuracies, Assassin’s Creed has garnered glowing reviews from critics and fans alike, currently garnering a ‘Very Postivitve’ review rating on Steam. 

Because of this, thousands of players have logged in and begun to explore the feudal Japan setting. Like all new games, you may be wondering how many people are currently playing AC Shadows.

As per SteamDB, Assassin’s Creed Shadows hit its all-time peak of 64,825 concurrent users on March 23 – officially beating AC Odyssey’s peak. Naturally, this figure only takes into account PC players and doesn’t reflect the player base across Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 platforms.

On launch day, the Assassin’s Creed team announced on X that at 4 PM Canada time, the game had surpassed one million players.

The open-world title reached the two-million-player milestone days later on March 22, outpacing the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey.

A week after, Ubisoft celebrating reaching the three-million-player milestone.

On release week, Assassin’s Creed Shadows ranked in 28th place on Steam’s most-played games list, directly under Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Helldivers 2. Shadows also ranked third under Steam’s global top sellers chart.

As of March 23, Shadows has officially overtaken AC Odyssey to become the series entry with the highest concurrent player count on Steam. Additionally, players can use Ubisoft’s subscription service, Ubisoft+, to play the game on their launcher. The game is also available on console, so the Steam player count is a fraction of the total.
