Battlefield 6 battle royale features most punishing circle yet

Battlefield 6 players surrounded by destruction

The Battlefield 6 devs have unveiled the first details of the upcoming battle royale mode, and it’s set to be one of the most punishing takes on the genre to date.

Battlefield 6 is set to arrive on October 10, with a new campaign and a huge multiplayer full of fresh maps and modes. But many fans have been eagerly awaiting the Firestorm battle royale mode, which is due to come out at a later date, free of charge.

Now, the devs have pulled back the curtain on the mode before its playtest goes live in Battlefield Labs. It’s set to feature 100-player lobbies with all the destruction and vehicles you’d expect, but it looks to be much less forgiving than the likes of Warzone and Fortnite.

Battlefield BR circle kills players on contact

On September 11, DICE shared an X post detailing a number of details about the battle royale, and there was one announcement that stood out. The mode is set to have the “deadliest ring in BR,” as the circle that closes in instantly kills players on contact.

In most games in this genre, the circle that pushes teams together gradually eats away at your health if you get caught in it. However, Battlefield’s version gives you no leeway whatsoever.

“With urgent warnings as the fire approaches, soldiers will be pushed into more intense firefights as the game space continues to shrink,” they said in the post. “There’s no jumping in and out of it, no using it for cover, no walking through it – if you get caught in it, you are done.”

The post also revealed plenty of other details about what to expect, including confirmation that the series’ signature classes will be present in the mode. This means that all players can pick between Assault, Engineer, Support, or Medic, and put together squads that feature all four or double down on one specific role.

Players will also be able to level up their classes through Training, giving them access to better gadgets and traits. One example given was an Assault trait that equips armor plates faster.

Although it won’t be fully realised until after Battlefield 6 goes live, fans can jump in and test the BR early through Battlefield Labs starting “this week.” Be sure to check out our full guide on how to sign up
