Battlefield 6 devs admit fan-favorite map remasters are “more complicated” than you think

Battlefield 6 developers have explained it’s more “difficult” than you’d think to remaster some of the series’ fan-favorite maps.
Taking a classic map, giving it some updates and letting a new generation of fans get to play it is something that game developers have been doing for a while. Call of Duty has regularly brought back classic maps, and will do so again in Black Ops 7.
Battlefield has also been on that trend, too, with Operation Firestorm – one of the most iconic maps from Battlefield 3 – set to finally make a return in Battlefield 6.
However, taking an older map, giving it a fresh lick of paint, and some changes to the layout is not an entirely simple process. It has given the Battlefield 6 developers some headaches.
Battlefield 6 devs on Operation Firestorm remaster
That’s according to Shashank Uchil, product owner and design director at DICE, who touched on Operation Firestorm’s long-awaited return.
“You wouldn’t believe how difficult it is. Because [of players’] expectations. People know the map and people have certain expectations,” he told PCGamesN. “But also there’s rose-tinted glasses, like, this is how it used to be.”
“How do we make it as destructible as every map in the package? How do we make sure the map works with the weapons, which are different from the weapons in Battlefield 3? It’s much more complicated than people think.”

Jeremy Chubb, a producer at DICE, echoed Uchil’s take as well. “People have really particular views about what that map was. They want that experience realized,” he also told PCGamesN.
“But I think that we would disappoint people little if we weren’t able to evolve it and embrace the new ideas and features that we have in this game.”

Chubb added that Firestorm “still works” and is “still fun,” but expectations are still high.
Battlefield Portal has, obviously, allowed fans to experiment with some features but Battlefield 6 is all-new.
