Black Ops 6 player count drops to new low after Season 5 Reloaded

Black Ops 6 has hit a new low in its player count following the launch of Season 5 Reloaded, as Call of Duty fans have gone elsewhere, at least on Steam.

When Black Ops 6 finally launched back in November 2024, it set a new record for Call of Duty. With it being a day one game for Xbox Game Pass, Activision announced it was their most successful launch ever, attracting 33.7 million players.

However, over time, that player count has drifted away. In early May, Ampere reported that Black Ops 6 had marked the lowest player count for Call of Duty for a few years, ticking towards 20.6 million active players. That was a sizable drop compared to the two previous years, especially.

The player count on Steam has progressively been on a downward trend as well, spiking with each new seasonal update before dropping off again. That was evident in Season 3 when Verdansk returned to Warzone and there was a huge spike.

Since then, the Steam-only player count has continued to dwindle. As per SteamDB and Steam Charts, Black Ops 6’s player count has hit a record low peak of around 63,000.

This is the count for the start of September, which marked the arrival of Season 5 Reloaded, but it is still down compared to August. The end of the summer saw the player count hit 67,540 as a peak.

The average player count for each month is starker still. In July, Black Ops 6 averaged 51,000 players, August saw that drop to 42,000, while the early part of September saw a drop again at 41,000. This would be the lowest since March, which had an average of 44,613 players.

While Steam isn’t always the go-to platform for CoD fans, it is a useful indicator of where the player base is at.

“When there are people leaving in waves on Steam, there are also probably people leaving in waves on other platforms,” YouTuber WhosImmortal chimed in.
