A Black Ops 7 dev has revealed how fast the time-to-kill will be in this year’s multiplayer, and it’s great news for anyone who enjoyed Black Ops 6.
Treyarch have been busy showing off new details about Black Ops 7, from the near-future setting to the many returning characters. But while the campaign will have some fans excited, multiplayer is the series’ bread and butter.
We’ve already had a sneak peek at some of the maps, with even more to come at the CoD Next event on September 30.
Now, though, a developer working on the game has confirmed that TTK will be very similar to that of this year’s multiplayer.
Black Ops 7 TTK will be similar to BO6
Design Director Matt Scronce posted on X, revealing that they’re currently testing the return of health bars. A fan replied asking about the time to kill, and he quickly replied.
“Currently sitting around Black Ops 6 TTK,” he explained. “We like where that has settled as not too fast and not too slow, giving enough time to react and room for weapons to have diversity without targets feeling overly spongy.”

Time to kill is a vital stat in any multiplayer shooter, as it drastically affects the pace and flow of a match. As a result, it’s a pretty divisive topic, as everybody has their own preference.
Some players want a fast TTK so they can drop enemies with just a few bullets and move on to the next fight, while others prefer things slower to give each encounter more depth. This divide can be seen from the replies to Scronce’s post.

“I want fast ttk again like 3-5 shots to kill average over range,” said one reply. “It’s so much more fun to just run around and get feeds instead of having to spend more time in gunfights, especially with how long it takes to reload in recent CoDs.”
Meanwhile, other players called for the return of an even slower TTK like in Black Ops Cold War, with one writing: “Cold War’s TTK created duels with drama and counterplay. BO6’s fast TTK just rewards pre-aim and removes your chance to fight back. One feels like a skill-based clash, the other just feels like getting shut down.”
In truth, no matter where the time to kill falls, it’s impossible to please everyone. But Black Ops 6 has proved to be a fairly nice medium in the eyes of many, as it’s faster than the likes of BOCW but not quite as blisteringly quick as earlier games in the series.
We’ll have to wait until the Black Ops 7 beta on October 2 to see it in action, but don’t be surprised to see the devs make adjustments before the full launch if it isn’t well-received.
