The Black Ops 7 developers have confirmed that a controversial Call of Duty feature won’t be returning to multiplayer in the new game.
Over the last few years, there have been a few attempts to innovate on different parts of Call of Duty’s multiplayer. A few of these have focused on loadouts and weapon balancing, while others have been on the way the developers build maps.
When it comes to the latter, the implementation of manual doors divided a fair bit of the CoD community. They first appeared back in Modern Warfare (2019) and have since played a part in releases that followed.
With Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on the horizon, some fans have quickly moved to quiz the devs as to whether or not doors will make a return. And, well, it’s good news for those who dislike the manual doors.
Black Ops 7 won’t have manual doors in multiplayer
On September 9, during a developer update, Matt Scronce, Treyarch’s design director, confirmed that manual doors are out.
“In Black Ops 7 multiplayer, there are no manual doors. We do have some automatic doors, just like we did in Black Ops 2,” he said.
“At the start of development, our goal was to drastically reduce the number of manual doors we had in our maps. About halfway through, we did a door count and I think we had about six doors. Then we had a door meeting, behind closed doors, and I said, “Let’s delete all the doors.” So, no manual doors in Black Ops 7 multiplayer.”
As noted, some fans enjoyed doors for modes like Search and Destroy and Hardpoint as it added an additional tactical wrinkle. Others, however, hated them and labeled them a gimmick.

Automatic doors will just trigger when you approach them, rather than you needing to press a button to open them. Which is better for some fans.
