Treyarch stunned fans with a Black Ops 7 Zombies trailer that reunited the original COD crew and unveiled the Dark Aether setting.
Fans speculated for months about Black Ops 7’s Zombies mode. Rumors pointed to an expanded story, but details stayed vague. Treyarch teased fragments in developer blogs and interviews but players debated if the classic crew might return or if the focus would stay on Requiem.
The studio finally ended the speculation with a trailer reveal. The footage showed the story shifting from Janus Towers into the Dark Aether. Familiar faces appeared alongside new allies, confirming the biggest crossover in Zombies history.

The trailer showed Grigori Weaver, Dr. Elizabeth Grey, Major Carver, and Maya Aguinaldo falling into the Dark Aether. Moments later, Tank Dempsey, Takeo Masaki, Nikolai Belinski, and Edward Richtofen appeared.
The eight characters stood together for the first time. A mysterious figure holding caged skulls drained their energy and summoned undead. The footage closed with carnage across Janus Plaza and a final line: “We’re not in West Virginia anymore.”
In a blog post, Treyarch called the reveal both a reunion and a reset. “We wanted to surprise players with characters they love while rewriting the rules,” the team said. Each fighter carried baggage from fractured timelines, setting the stage for uneasy alliances.

Weaver returned hardened, forced into leadership after Requiem’s collapse. Grey, once a scientist defined by reason, now questions whether science could save anyone. Carver’s anger turned into a vow to protect humanity on his own terms. Maya, raised on smuggling and survival, still searched for belonging in a group she barely trusted.
Then came the veterans. Dempsey dropped in from the jungles of Vietnam, sarcastic and volatile. Takeo wandered from Feudal Japan, weighed down by honor and exile. Nikolai arrived from Afghanistan, scarred and bitter but still dependable in battle. Richtofen, pulled from an alternate 1945 where the Axis triumphed, carried both genius and menace behind his grin.
