Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has finally been revealed, with 2025’s flagship CoD entry taking us to the near future for a new campaign, Zombies, and multiplayer experience.

Like clockwork, Activision drops a new Call of Duty game each and every year. The annualized FPS series has become a cultural juggernaut as a result, with each new installment selling millions of units without fail.

We got our first in-depth look at the next game at Gamescom Opening Night 2025, where the release date was also confirmed. So, here’s everything we know about Black Ops 7 so far.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 release date

Black Ops 7 is releasing on Friday, November 14, 2025, as confirmed at Gamescom. This was leaked ahead of time, but now players can officially put it in their calendars.

There is also a CoD Next event expected later in the year, where we’ll get an even better look at BO7, as well as some details on Zombies and Warzone.

Trailers

Check out the second trailer, revealed at Gamescom 2025, below:

This first trailer confirmed many of the leaked details, like a near-future setting and the return of iconic Black Ops characters.

Platforms

Black Ops 7 releases on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC through Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox PC.

So, it’s not coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 despite Microsoft’s decade-long deal with Nintendo in which they said CoD would arrive “the same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity.”

However, in a statement to IGN, Activision said, “We’re committed to getting the franchise on Switch. Both teams are working on it. Will share details when ready.”

Is it on Xbox Game Pass?

Yes, Black Ops 7 will be on Xbox Game Pass day one through Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.

Black Ops 7 developer

Treyarch and Raven Software are developing Black Ops 7.

While Treyarch and Raven are leading development, it’s worth noting that almost all dev teams under the Activision umbrella serve to support the CoD behemoth in some way. As a result, a wide range of teams are all chipping in, including Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games.

Beta

A beta for Black Ops 7 is being held from Thursday, October 2, to Wednesday, October 8, 2025. For info on how to secure your spot, check out our guide.

Black Ops 7 is a Black Ops 2 sequel set in near future

Black Ops 7 is set in 2035, roughly 10 years after Black Ops 2 and 30 years before Black Ops 3.

“The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6,” says the official description.

“Wielding cutting-edge technology, the Black Ops team led by David Mason must fight back against a manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else.”

Co-op campaign

Black Ops 7 lets you play solo or team up with three friends in a “thrilling and innovative Co-op Campaign.” This marks the first time since Black Ops 3 that players have been able to play through the campaign with a squad.

The story mostly takes place in Avalon, where many of Black Ops 6’s maps are set, and you’ll have the opportunity to upgrade your character throughout, thanks to the new Power Journey feature.

Once you hit the end of the campaign, a Co-Op Endgame mode will be made available, giving you free rein to explore Avalon and take on endless PvE challenges.

Maps

Black Ops 7 launches with 16 6v6 maps, including 13 brand-new creations and three remasters from BO2. There are also two 20v20 Skirmish maps: Mission Edge and Mission Tide.

The returning maps there on day one will be Hijacked, Estate, and Raid, three of the most beloved options from 2012.

This slightly goes against early leaks, which hinted that BO7 would arrive with every Black Ops 2 map, just like Modern Warfare 3 (2023) did with every MW2 map. However, don’t be surprised if we see more classics remastered in future updates.

Weapons

It wouldn’t be a Call of Duty without a huge lineup of guns, and there will be 30 available on launch day. This includes 16 new arrivals and 14 that have appeared previously in the series.

Of course, this number will also grow as new seasons come and go, so expect plenty of Assault Rifles, SMGs, and much more to level up. You can check out all of the guns we know about so far here

Weapon Prestige is also making a comeback this year, giving you extra attachments and camos to unlock once you reach maximum level on a specific gun.

Omnimovement updates

Black Ops 7 has “an evolution of Omnimovement,” but that doesn’t mean wall running or jetpacks. But there is a new wall jump mechanic that lets you push off a surface to reach higher ground or outflank enemies.

This isn’t the only change, either, as there’s also a new combat roll system that eases fall damage. However, this feature isn’t available in core 6v6 modes, but it will show up in the campaign and likely in the 20v20 Skirmish mode.

The ability to mount of walls and other scenery also returns, this time with the option of moving while resting. So, you’re no longer stuck in place if you want to improve your accuracy and keep yourself hidden behind cover.

Tactical Sprint no longer default

One of the biggest changes coming in Black Ops 7 is that Tactical Sprint (or Tac Sprint) is no longer on by default. Instead, in the opposite move to Black Ops 6, it’s disabled as standard, and you can use a Perk to equip it.

Tac Sprint has been a very controversial feature over the years, with many welcoming the faster traversal it allows, while others have grown tired of how long it takes to ready your gun and get into a fight.

By tying it to a Perk going forward, fans have the option to play the way they want to. If you rely on that extra mobility, it’ll be a staple of your loadours, but you’re free to focus on other areas if you’ve never liked the system.

Other gameplay changes

Aside from the ones mentioned above, BO7 comes with a host of other gameplay changes that look set to make this Call of Duty look and feel very different. They include:

Round-based Zombies

Round-based Zombies will also be included in CoD 2025. While Treyarch has led the charge on a true round-based mode in Black Ops 6, BO7 follows suit with more round-based action.

This year’s version sees the return of the original crew on the biggest round-based map seen to date, which takes plenty of inspiration from TranZit. It features a number of huge locations all on the same map, which teams will be able to travel between.

Some of these POIs will also be broken off into smaller Survival maps, where the goal is simply to stay alive, which will be released in future seasons.

Another big announcement is that Dead Ops Arcade will also return. This top-down, twin stick version of Zombies was a secret level in the original Black Ops, and was brought back in Black Ops 3 and BOCW.
