ActivisionCall of Duty‘s next major update is set to reduce the game’s notoriously hefty file size by a whopping 100 GB.
One of the side effects of integrating multiplayer and Warzone within one app is that Call of Duty has become a pretty huge download. On console, if you want to have both Black Ops 6 multiplayer and Warzone installed at once, you need to be prepared to give over 215 GB of memory.
The devs have tried to ease the pain a little with various changes, such as allowing players to delete individual modes or removing MW3 and MW2 from CoD HQ, but it remains a massive storage stealer.
That finally looks like it’s going to change, as an update is set to shave a huge chunk from the file size.
Black Ops 6 & Warzone file size finally set to be reduced
According to PlayStation Game Size on X, the next major update will reduce the base size of the Call of Duty app on PlayStation 5 from over 126 GB to just over 25 GB. The PS4 version will also see a reduction, going from 81 GB to 62 GB.
This doesn’t take into account the extra downloads of multiplayer packs or the various different modes, but it’s still a 101 GB reduction that will be music to players’ ears.
The update has already been added to the database, meaning it should arrive very soon, likely with Season 5 Reloaded.
In a follow-up post, they also revealed that the Black Ops 6 multiplayer pack will also become optional once the patch goes live. This means that if you’re primarily a Warzone or Zombies player, you can delete the multiplayer portion to save another 99 GB.
It’s worth noting that this post only mentions PlayStation platforms, but it’s likely that both Xbox and PC will benefit too.

This comes just over two months before Black Ops 7 is due to arrive, which will likely see the total storage required go up once again, but fans will be hoping it doesn’t go back to the hard drive-eating monster it was before.
The Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 5 Reloaded update is expected to go live on either September 4 or September 11, and will also bring new weapons and maps to the game.
