Legendary CS:GO map Cache is officially back in Counter-Strike 2 and it looks incredible

Storied map maker FMPONE has released a full version of his Cache remake for CS2 on Steam, allowing players to jump in and test the map now.

Since CS2 launched in 2023, a number of maps have been on the wish list for players, but Cache is at the top of the pile for many.

Once a staple competitive map at the pro level in CS:GO, it fell out of the Active Duty map pool in 2019 with Vertigo taking its place.

You’d be hard-pressed though to find many players who preferred Vertigo to Cache, and the classic tight, three-lane style map might finally be making a triumphant comeback.

FMPONE, also the creator of Thera, which was added to CS2 last year, has completed the remake – or at least, got it to a place he’s happy with for release into the wild.

A straightforward announcement was made on March 3: “DE_CACHE has returned for Counter Strike,” accompanied by a screenshot of T spawn.

He also followed it up with a picture of CT spawn. Both areas look similar to their CS:GO counterpart, but this is very clearly a new take on the classic.

The workshop page for the map shows off even more screenshots, including both bombsites:

There is also a short description, which reads:

“A bomb defusal map set around Chernobyl.

“Terrorists are bent on destroying the evidence of a massive weapons-cache in the shadows of Chernobyl.”

Whether Cache ever makes it back into the game as even a deathmatch map remains to be seen, but provided it’s not a major departure from the previous version, it’s a sure bet that many players will want to play it competitively.

Cache was also originally designed in partnership with Volcano, who is now a Co-Lead Game Designer on Valorant, at Riot Games. FMPONE made sure to pay credit to Volcano for this new build too, tagging him in the post.
