Cyberpunk 2077 became one of gaming’s biggest comeback stories after its rough launch, with major updates and expansions turning it into a success. Now CD Projekt Red is moving ahead with a full sequel, and it looks like players may not have to explore Night City alone this time.

There’s a lot to do in Cyberpunk 2077 to keep you occupied. Whether that’s arguing with Keanu Reeves, racing through the streets, completing side quests, or bagging the best weapons. However, you can only do all that alone… aside from the voice in your character’s head that is.

Well, now Cyberpunk 2 is in the making, and a subtle job listing has revealed this may no longer be the case, as multiplayer could be coming to the sequel.

Cyberpunk 2 set to have multiplayer according to job listing

A new job listing from CD Projekt Red reveals that Cyberpunk 2 could have multiplayer as a primary feature, unlike the original release.

The listing is for a Lead Network Engineer working specifically on Cyberpunk 2, described as “the next mainline Cyberpunk 2077 game.” One of the role’s key responsibilities is to “lead your team to develop and optimize multiplayer systems, including matchmaking, and address challenges related to latency, bandwidth usage, and server performance.”

This wording strongly hints that the sequel will bring online play to the Cyberpunk universe for the first time. Whether this means full co-op exploration of Night City, PvP elements, or another type of multiplayer system hasn’t been confirmed. But the fact that CD Projekt Red is building a team around it suggests multiplayer will be a core focus for the adventure.

For now, the details remain under wraps, but this listing is the clearest sign yet that Night City won’t just be a solo experience the second time around.
