Drang, the king of traditional Sidearms, has returned to Destiny 2 with a fresh set of perks in Ash & Iron and, as is to be expected, it’s instantly become a meta option across the entire sandbox.
That’s partially due to it being a fantastic weapon in its own right, of course, but also because it has the bonus of synergizing incredibly well with a long-dormant Exotic weapon.
Once more, Sturm, the Hand Cannon that’s been around since vanilla Destiny 2, reaps huge benefits from being paired with Drang due to the latter’s Together Forever archetype, granting the former a massive temporary damage boost after scoring kills.
Whether you intend to take advantage of that pairing or use Drang as a standalone weapon, both are viable uses, but the roll you’ll want will vary wildly depending on whether you’re primarily a PvE or PvP player.
Drang PvE & PvP god roll – Meta analysis
PvE God Roll | PvP God Roll |
---|---|
Barrel: Arrowhead Brake Magazine: Tactical Mag Perk 1: Heal Clip Perk 2: Incandescent Masterwork: Reload Speed | Barrel: Corkscrew Rifling Magazine: Accurized Rounds Perk 1: Moving Target Perk 2: Eye of the Storm or Master of Arms Masterwork: Range |
Generally speaking, any weapon that’s able to roll Heal Clip and Incandescent together is automatically worth considering for a PvE build. Fortunately, Drang has access to exactly that, and while it doesn’t deal the same absurd damage as a Rocket Sidearm, it’s a perfect pairing with another certain Rocket-Assisted weapon, namely Mint Retrograde.
To bolster the weapon’s strengths in PvE, look to boost Reload Speed and Handling with the Masterwork and Arrowhead Brake respectively.
For PvP, you’ve got a couple of options. For the first perk slot, Moving Target‘s increase to Aim Assistance is too good to pass up, and doesn’t compete with anything worth considering as an alternative anyway. For the second slot, Eye of the Storm and Master of Arms are both great, although the former was my preference in testing for the sizable accuracy bump.

Outside of the above, all remaining perks should be funnelled towards increasing Range.

How to get Drang
Currently, this reissued version of Drang can be obtained by completing activities in Solo and Fireteam, and Crucible Ops in The Edge of Fate’s Portal system.
Completing any mission or activity in these categories has a chance to drop Drang, but to expedite your farm, be on the lookout for any activity that has the weapon as a featured reward. This will guarantee at least one drop of Drang upon completion.
That’s a wrap on everything you need to know about Drang, but it’s far from the only weapon dominating Destiny 2 right now. Check out our god roll guides for Seraphine Haze and Submersion for more build ideas.
