Trachinus isn’t going to be winning any awards for defining Destiny 2‘s meta in The Edge of Fate, but it’s a solid Shotgun capable of cranking out respectable damage.
You’re going to be getting a lot of them while hunting for the exceptionally more powerful Synanceia from Heavy Metal, either way, so it’s definitely worth casting an eye over the rolls you find while farming the limited-time PvP event.
It’s worth noting, too, that Trachnius is currently the only Rapid Fire Slug Shotgun in the game, and while the archetype does less damage than traditional Slug shotties, they fire much faster to compensate. You won’t be doing Mint Retrograde levels of damage with this Special weapon, but if you’re looking for options, this is still a versatile alternative worth testing in the field.
With that in mind, here are the rolls you’ll want to be on the lookout for.
Trachinus PvE & PvP god roll – Meta analysis
PvE God Roll | PvP God Roll |
---|---|
Barrel: Arrowhead Brake Magazine: Assault Mag Perk 1: Lead from Gold or Rapid Hit Perk 2: Precision Instrument Masterwork: Reload Speed or Range | Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling Magazine: Accurized Rounds Perk 1: Killing Wind Perk 2: Swashbuckler Masterwork: Range |

For PvE, you’ve got some options. While the reliably strong Rimestealer + Chill Clip combo for Stasis builds is possible, the pairing isn’t worth it here. Trachnius isn’t a good add-clear weapon and is better suited to boss DPS.
Instead, look for Lead from Gold for improved ammo economy or Rapid Hit for stat boosts in the first column. Precision Instrument is your best choice for the second column regardless of which you prefer for the first, increasing precision damage by up to 25%.
For PvP, you’ll predictably want any perks that increase range, damage, or ability performance. For that reason, Killing Wind and Swashbuckler are your best bet. Admittedly, Trachnius’ PvP viability is on the weaker side due to its lack of Lone Wolf or Closing Time, but the aforementioned pairing is serviceable, at the very least.
Heavy Metal runs for just one week, meaning you have until the launch of Ash & Iron on September 9 to farm up your desired rolls.
