Fishing might not seem that important in a game as intense as Destiny Rising, but it’ll offer you some fantastic rewards and the ability to feed a cat, so it’s clearly well worth doing.
There’s so much to do in Destiny Rising, from fighting enemies, exploring the world, taking part in dungeons, and completing various minigames, all to grant you some exclusive loot. Well, fishing is no different, and it’s the perfect activity if you want some free rewards and weapons, which you can occasionally fish up, or have a chill time in the mobile game.
However, just heading over to a body of water and hoping you can fish won’t be that successful. You need to know how to unlock the minigame, how to fish, and of course, what you can do with those fish after you’ve caught them. So, here’s everything you need to know about fishing in Destiny Rising.
How to unlock the fishing minigame
To unlock fishing in Destiny Rising, you need to reach Chapter 2-3 in the main story, which takes place in Pandora-7 at the Haven Bazaar.

This will unlock the “Go Fishing” sidequest, which (who’d have guessed) unlocks the practice of angling. It also provides a handy tutorial, teaching you exactly how to fish and its various uses.
How to fish
If, like me, you tend to speed through quests and then quickly forget everything it just taught you, then you may feel a little… in the deep end. So, to fish, you need to find the fishing locations scattered around the world (which are below, how handy!). Head to one of these and tap the fishing pop-up that appears on your screen.

Then, you’ll be offered the fishing menu, which gives you the option to use the following items, all of which alter the types of fish you can catch:
- Rod: Makes it easier to catch fish.
- Bait: Alters the rarity of the fish you catch.
- Meal: Enhances the fish quantity and rarity for 20 minutes.
From there, it’s time to cast off. Press the fire button and cast your rod into the water. From there, you’ll see the fishing line button. When it changes its icon, you have a fish on the line. Tap it to reel in the catch.

The rarer the fish, the harder the minigame you need to complete. Just keep tapping the screen to keep the blue circle on the fish icon, and you’ll reel it in with very few issues. The yellow circle around the fish represents the fish’s stamina. If that circle fills, the fish will escape. That blue circle will reduce the stamina, so keep it in there.
How to get more Rods, Bait & Meals
As we mentioned above, Rods, Bait, and Meals are extremely useful when fishing in Destiny Rising, but they’re not easy to get hold of.
To get more Rods, you’ll need to increase your fishing rank. Doing so will allow you to unlock more tiers with the fishing merchant in Haven Bazaar. This will let you purchase stronger fishing rods. We recommend you focus on this, as it makes fishing so much easier.
Bait is also found in the Fishing Supply shop, and is traded using Angler Tokens, a currency you can get for selling your fish (spoilers for the section below). You can also get special bait for levelling up your fishing and completing relevant challenges.

Lastly, Meals are made available when you reach level 6 fishing. Once you do, you can purchase high-quality bait and meals, which is highly recommended.
All Abilities
Levelling up your fishing in Destiny Rising doesn’t just let you buy more items for your catch; it also unlocks Abilities. These, and how much it’ll cost you to unlock, are below:
Ability | Description | Cost |
---|---|---|
Bring It On | Shortens the time needed to catch a fish. | 1 Fishing Ability Point |
Frugality I | Bait has a 15% chance of not being consumed if you fail to catch a fish. | 1 Fishing Ability Point |
Frugality II | Bait has a 30% chance of not being consumed if you fail to catch a fish. | 1 Fishing Ability Point |
Packing on the Pounds | Increases the weight of caught fish. | 2 Fishing Ability Points |
Advancing in Order I | Unlocks beginner fishing spots and upgrades Haven fishing spot to beginner. | 2 Fishing Ability Points |
What to do with fish
So, you’ve caught some fish (well done), but now you have no idea what to do with them. Well, there are two things you can do with these new items:
- Feed the cats that hide around Haven.
- Sell them to the Fishing Merchant for Angling Tokens.
Feeding the cat is a pretty easy thing to do once you have fish, though the little feline does change location daily and does ask for different fish from different regions too, so you’ll want to check in with our guide to ensure you’re offering the right fish… cats are picky eaters.

The next, and arguably the better use of fish (sorry, kitty), is to sell them to the Fishing Merchant where you started the tutorial for Angling Tokens. These can be used to buy more Rods, Bait, and more.
We recommend leveling up your gear by selling fish until you’re comfortable with what you have, then you can go around feeding your feline friends.
All fishing spots
There are tons of fishing spots dotted around Destiny Rising, but they can be a little tricky to spot, so we’ve put all the locations in the table below.
