Everything we know about Destiny 2: Renegades – Star Wars weapons & armor, Tharsis, more

destiny 2 renegades

Renegades is the second main expansion for Destiny 2 in 2025, although for this particular content drop, Bungie’s trying something a little different.

In partnership with Lucasfilm, the looter shooter’s developer has curated an expansion themed around the Star Wars universe. Rather than shoehorning in Stormtroopers, Sith Lords, and Jedi, however, Bungie has billed Renegades as a homage to a galaxy far, far away.

That essentially means you can expect Renegades to feature weapons, gear, enemies, and locations heavily themed on Disney’s franchise while keeping the DLC’s lore, story, and characters grounded in the Destiny universe.

In a ViDoc released on September 9, Bungie revealed a ton of new information about Renegades, so let’s get to breaking down everything that was shown.

Destiny 2: Renegades release date

Renegades goes live for Destiny 2 on Tuesday, December 2, across all platforms. As usual, this date coincides with the game’s weekly reset, meaning you’ll have until this date to finish the current Ash & Iron Rewards Pass before it’s refreshed.

Story & Trailers

Bungie’s September 9 ViDoc pulled back the curtain on where Renegades will take Guardians in December. Chiefly, players will be returning to Tharsis Junction, a forgotten outpost in the Martian Meridian Desert.

In the years since it became considered unimportant by the Vanguard, the location has become a stronghold of villainy, attracting criminals of all kinds to call its lawless borders home.

A new hub area, inspired by the Mos Eisley Cantina from A New Hope, will be players’ central port of call and where they’ll likely pick up quests, bounties, and other important requests from the locals.

While story details aren’t fully known, Bungie did reveal that a new sect of the Cabal, sporting armor modelled after Stormtroopers, will be a primary threat. In addition to their familiar-looking look, the alien empire has been busy constructing new war machines, including one that looks remarkably similar to an AT-ST. Check out the ViDoc below.

Star Wars-themed weapons & armor

In terms of gear borrowed from Star Wars, Bungie showcased gameplay of Warlocks and Hunters brandishing Lightsaber-like weapons (likely classified as Swords in-game) and a Sidearm modelled after Han Solo’s iconic Blaster.

The process required for players to wield they very own Lightsaber isn’t known with any certainty, although Bungie did briefly mention that Guardians will be able to tailor their blades to their tastes. Whether this will be through Destiny 2’s existing crafting system or something else entirely isn’t clear.

New features

Not dissimilar to The Edge of Fate, Renegades will feature its own self-contained progression system. Some of these, including the ability to call in aerial bombardments and vehicle support, were shown during the showcase.

How many of these will be available at launch remains to be seen, but judging by the UI pictured below, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to strategically curate a personal loadout of special abilities while taking on the criminal underworld.
