Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Lucky You event proves one obvious change is needed

Disney Dreamlight Valley has finally released a brand new event, this time it’s celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the only way it knows how, and it’s about time for that familiarity to finally change.

Whether it’s Halloween, Christmas, Easter, or any other widely celebrated holiday, Disney Dreamlight Valley is no stranger to a themed event. Sure, they don’t happen as often as some would like (that’s for another article) but for the most part, they’re an ideal way to grab a few rewards, keep things interesting between updates, and introduce a few more tasks to complete.

However, after three years (bet you feel old now) of Dreamlight Valley, the most recent event, Lucky You has made one thing impossible to ignore, we need something new.

Middling egg-spectations

Now, imagine a Disney Dreamlight Valley event. There’s a new resource on the ground around the Valley that, when you collect them, can be used to craft the, let’s say, one or two new items added to the game. Lastly, there’s one, or maybe two new tasks, which ask you to gather these resources and either give them to a villager, or just hold onto them.

Which event am I talking about? The Halloween one, which asked players to pick up candy to give to villagers and craft a Candy Bowl? The Christmas one, which got you to pick up wrapping paper from the ground so you could gift presents to villagers and craft them for a task? The Easter event, which asks players to collect (or grow, I’ll give them that) eggs around the Valley, to craft a chair or basket and complete one or two tasks, or Lucky You, which has you collecting Clovers off the ground and crafting a cauldron?

Unless you’re me, who knows the answer, or a brilliant detective, there’s no way of knowing. That’s because they’re all just so similar to each other.

Now, don’t get me wrong, when the game’s so focused on bringing new updates complete with quests, mysteries, and more, there’s hardly much time to create immense events for every holiday. But that’s not what I’m asking.

Variety above all else

What Disney Dreamlight Valley needs is variety in its events. Take Lucky You for example. Collecting Clovers and crafting a Cauldron (thanks for the alliteration DDV) is alright, but perhaps one of the characters wants to put on a St Patrick’s Day event?

As such, you’re given a new quest, a series of celebration items to craft that you can keep after the fact, and outfits to prepare. This could easily introduce new resources to find, but also the ability to create your own rewards, and so many more of them, as opposed to the one or two we get in recent events.

This could be the same with Mardi Gras, or Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, even things like Father’s Day, where Donald wants to celebrate his uncle for being like a father to him and creates tasks for a grand dinner, new beautiful eating spot, a present, and an outfit for Donald to wear that could turn into an equippable skin.

You get the gist. Disney Dreamlight Valley knows what its players want, and it knows what works, but what brings the game to life is its unique take on the cozy genre. It’s its quests, it’s variety in activities, and if that were to transfer over to events, well just imagine how exciting they’d become.
