The Wonderland Whimsy update in Disney Dreamlight Valley has finally unlocked the ability to have the Cheshire Cat as a villager in the Valley, though unlocking him isn’t as easy as it usually is.
One of the best things about Disney Dreamlight Valley is its updates. Every other month or so, we’re treated to new characters, quests, mysteries, and sometimes even a new realm or recipe to uncover. On top of that, new features are often added, helping improve the overall adventure and helping players work towards the Star Path and its Duties.
In this particular update, Gameloft have changed up its format, segmenting unlocking the Cheshire Cat into different stages over a period of time. That being said, he’s finally here and available to unlock — so here’s how to get the Cheshire Cat as a villager in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
How to unlock the Cheshire Cat
Unlock Alice
The first thing you’ll need to do to get the Cheshire Cat is unlock Alice. This is best done by following our guide to unlock her, which highlights all the quests you need to complete and her friendship quests.

Leaving Wonderland
Next, when you’ve unlocked Alice, you’ll be going through the quest ‘Leaving Wonderland,’ which sees Alice settle into the Valley and ask about the Cheshire Cat joining them.
Simply go through the quest (which can also be found in our guide) and speak to him when prompted. He’ll agree and disappear, leaving only a trail of pink footprints.

Follow these footprints out of the realm and down the right-hand side of the castle. Don’t worry if they disappear. Simply head down and outside the castle until you get a prompt to speak to Alice.

She’ll explain that this means he’s already in the Valley, and will likely cause some mischief before he’s fully unlockable. From here, you’ll need to wait.
Mannequin Madness
With Alice unlocked and Leaving Wonderland complete, head over to Scrooge McDuck’s store. Once you enter, you’ll spot eight pieces of trash on the floor, with that the Mannequin Madness quest will begin.
Interact with each trash pile (E on PC) to get rid of it. There are eight in total, and they were all on the bottom floor for us.

When that’s sorted, speak to Scrooge, who will lament over the chaos and wonder what happened. He’ll also explain that there’s a mysterious mannequin in the middle of the store, with a mysterious but recognizable grin on it.
Speak to Alice
After hearing that, it’s easy to conclude that this is the Cheshire Cat. So, head over to Alice to speak to her and show her the mannequin.
After showing her, she’ll ask you to take a closer look. To do this, interact with the mannequin to remove it. As soon as you do it’ll move, so interact with it again, you’ll need to interact with three in total. The last one is hidden on the right-hand side by the stairs.

Buy Cheshire Cat items
With that, you’ll find a Pink and Purple Coupon. Grab it and give it to Scrooge. He’ll be pretty confused with it, but will eventually relent and allow you to buy the two new things in his inventory that have just appeared.
So, speak to him, select I’d Like to Order Some Items, head to Clothing, and buy the Purple Cat Ears and the Cheshire Cat Slippers.
Once you have them, put them on and speak to Alice. She’ll explain that this is clearly the Cheshire Cat’s work and that it likely means he’s almost ready to join the Valley. With that, the Mannequin Madness quest will be complete.
Chaos in the Kitchen
As of April 30, the next quest to unlock the Cheshire Cat has been revealed. To begin, head into Remy’s Restaurant.

Inside will be familiar pink glowing footprints, and you’ll be instructed to talk to Remy. Naturally, he won’t be best pleased about the mess, or about the idea that there could be a cat nearby.
Next, investigate the paw prints and keep an eye out for any other hints.
Simply head up to the prints, interact, and eventually, a recipe book will drop. Pick it up, head into your inventory, and learn the recipe for the Cheshire Cat Tail.
Cook a Cheshire Cat Tail
Once you’ve learnt it, you’ll want to stay in the restaurant and head to the cooking pot. Grab all the ingredients and cook up the Cheshire Cat Tail.

If you need a hand cooking this dish, be sure to check out our guide, complete with all the ingredients and how you can get hold of them.
When it’s cooked, give the dish over to Remy. He’ll lighten up a little now he’s been given a new meal, but he’ll still be worried.
Remove more mess
To quell his worry, head outside the restaurant and interact with the three sets of stacked chairs to remove them. They’re pretty easy to spot and frequented the back of the building for us.
Once that’s complete, head back inside the restaurant and speak to the Cheshire Cat. He’ll give you various riddles but will explain that he’s almost ready to come to the Valley. With that, speak to Remy, and your quest will be complete.
Cat Tree Catastrophe
Speak to Moana
The final quest will begin with Moana, who should have a blue quest icon above her head. Go over to her and speak to her to begin the Cat Tree Catastrophe questline.
She’ll explain that some rather mysterious fish have been popping up on her fishing boat, prompting you to follow her to Dazzle Beach. When you get there, she’ll explain that these Purple Catfish have been appearing and will ask you to take a photo of them.
Fish up Cheshire Catfish
Head over to Moana’s boat and look to the right for the pink glowing fish. You don’t need to head inside the boat’s inventory; just pull out your phone and snap a picture of the fish.
Then, you’ll need to fish five of the leftover Cheshire Catfish from the waters of Dazzle Beach. Grab your fishing rod and fish in the orange ripples. Most of them will produce a Cheshire Catfish.
Once you have all five, bring the fish over to Alice, who will confirm this is definitely the Cheshire Cat’s work. She’ll ask you to head over to her house to investigate.
Find the Cheshire Cat’s Mini Tree
Once inside her home, you’ll see the Cheshire Cat. Speak to him and he’ll explain that he’s almost ready to join the Valley, but as it goes with most new characters, he’ll need a home. Through a few complicated conversations, he’ll explain that you need to find his tree and bring it to the valley. As such, you’ll need to find the Cheshire Cat’s Mini Tree.
The Cheshire Cat’s Mini Tree is located inside Alice’s home. Look along the walls of her house and take a picture of the clocks on the right-hand side of the room when you enter. Once you do, head back to the Cheshire Cat, and you’ll see the Mini Tree glowing on the ground.
Pick it up, offer it to the Cheshire Cat, and he’ll explain that you need to place it outside so it can grow. So, all you need to do is head outside, open up your building menu, and place it wherever you would like in the Valley.
With that, you’ll need to speak to the Cheshire Cat, and he’ll be welcomed into your Valley.
It’s worth noting that there is a disclaimer on his hangout feature. The disclaimer reads, “During hangouts, he will come and go as he pleases and won’t be visible at all times. (Don’t worry, you’ll still get the benefits of hanging out with a friend.)”
Level 2 Friendship quest: Furniture Fluster
In Furniture Fluster, the Cheshire Cat is messing up everyone’s houses in the Valley. Because he only speaks in riddles, it’s up to you to figure out whose house he’s victimized this time.
Visit the House of the “Diamond in the Rough”

The “Diamond in the Rough” refers to Aladdin. Look for his and Jasmine’s house, wherever you decided to place them when you unlocked them, and talk to Aladdin inside.
Next, pick up the purple cutesy items from inside his house, which are the vanity, a tulip vase, and a hair dryer.
Once you’ve gathered the items, head back to the Cheshire cat and have a word with him.
Find the owner of the purple cutesy items

The owner of the purple cutesy items is Daisy.
Speak to her and then visit her house. Look around the house for purple paws and follow them to the location where you’re meant to place all three items.
Once you’re done, you’ll have to return the rusty items to its rightful owner.
Find the owner of the old rusted metal items

The owner of the old rusted metal items is WALL-E. Speak to him, then visit his house and help him place the Bench, the Sink, and the Metal Container in place.
After reporting back to the Cheshire cat, he’ll ask that you rebuild Aladdin’s missing furniture.
How to craft Aladdin’s missing furniture
To get Aladdin’s Pretty Pillow, Intricate Chest, and Agrabah Table back, you’ll require the following ingredients:
- 10 Fiber: Made from Seaweed.
- 25 Softwood: Found in the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, Forest of Valor, and Glade of Trust.
- 3 Purple Rising Penstemon: Found in the Peaceful Meadow.
- 3 Green Rising Penstemon: Found in the Peaceful Meadow.
Once you’ve got the ingredients, head back to the crafting table and make all three pieces of furniture. Finally, report to Aladdin, place the furniture where it belongs in his house, and speak to the Cheshire Cat.
Level 4 Friendship quest: It’s All Nonsense!
To kick off his next Friendship quest, the Cheshire Cat asks that you make four meals:
Garlic Chocolate Tart recipe

To make Garlic Chocolate Tart, you need the following ingredients:
- Cheese: Bought from Remy’s Pantry.
- Cocoa Bean: Found in the Glade of Trust.
- Garlic: Found in the Forest of Valor
- Egg: Bought from Remy’s Pantry.
- Wheat: Purchased from Goofy’s Stall in the Peaceful Meadow.
Tea Sandwich recipe

To make Tea Sandwich, you need the following ingredients:
- Wheat: Purchased from Goofy’s Stall in the Peaceful Meadow.
- Corn: Purchased from Goofy’s Stall in Dazzle Beach.
- Cherry: Found in the Sunlit Plateau and Frosted Heights.
- Any fish
You’ll have to make two of each for the Cheshire Cat. When you’re ready, present the meals to him.
Craft a Cheshire Smile Balloon Arch

The next step is to gather materials to craft a Balloon Arch:
- 25 Coal Ore: Obtained from mining ore nodes.
- 25 Snowball: Obtained by pickaxing ice clumps in the Frosted Heights.
- 30 Raspberry: Found in the Plaza and Peaceful Meadow.
- 10 Oregano: Found in the Plaza.
The next steps are to decorate, dress up, and invite some guests for the occasion. After placing the Nonsense Banquet Table, take a selfie and check on your guests to see if they’re happy with the celebration.
Level 7 Friendship quest: The Uncrafting Station
The Cheshire Cat’s seventh friendship quest actually unlocks uncrafting in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Craft three Wildly Jubilant Topiaries

To craft these, you’ll need:
- 15 Clay: Dug up in the Glade of Trust, Sunlit Plateau, and Forgotten Lands.
- 15 Soil: Dug up anywhere in the Valley.
- 5 Pink Houseleek: Found in the Sunlit Plateau.

Once you’ve crafted them, report to the Cheshire Cat and place them nearby. The next them will be to grab a pickaxe and destroy them to “uncraft” them. He’ll then ask you to repeat the process with three Balloon Arches before your character decides they can’t just break their furniture with a pickaxe and requests a station.
Search for the Blue Spores

Teleport to the Alice and Wonderland realm and look for glowing blue spores. They are scattered around the floor, but mostly grow around the larger blue mushrooms.
Once you’ve got 20 of those, report back to the Cheshire Cat. He’ll ask that you use the Spores and some materials to craft the Uncrafting Station.
Uncrafting Station recipe

Here’s what you’ll need:
- 28 Mushroom: Found in the Glade of Trust.
- 6 Purple Bell Flower: Found in the Forest of Valor.
- 35 Hardwood: Found in the Sunlit Plateau, Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, and Frosted Heights.
- 17 Glass: Crafted with 5 Sand and 1 Coal Ore.
- 4 Blue Passion Lily: Found in the Frosted Heights.
- 20 Blue Spores: Found in the Alice and the Wonderland realm.
Place the Uncrafting Station near your home to start disassemble furniture. Just be aware that it consumes Dreamlight based on the furniture’s rarity.
Level 10 Friendship quest: On a Wild Cheshire Chase
On the Cheshire Cat’s last Friendship Quest, he’ll send you on a scavenger hunt full of riddles.
Bring the Scavenger Hunt note to Alice
The first thing to do is bring a note to Alice to ask for her help. She’ll kindly suggest that you eat the note, since it’s actually made of rice.

Open your inventory, find the note, and select the option Eat to actually eat the Scavenger Hunt Note. Then, a memory will appear on the floor of Alice’s house. Interact with it to get the next clue.
Cheshire Cat’s memory location

The location shown in the memory is right next to the Beauty and the Beast realm door, inside the Dream Castle. To find this location, look for a bush with gallons of milk in it right next to the door with a rose icon in it.
This interaction will give you a White Rose and Spoiled Milk. Speak with Alice to get some pointers about what to do next.
Find a place for the White Rose
The White Rose should go in the Queen’s Garden, the place where you painted a tree when unlocking Alice.
So, teleport to the Alice and Wonderland Realm and head deep into the forest until you find the red mushroom that can teleport you back to the Queen’s Garden.

Once you’re here, look for the White heart-shaped bush and place the White Rose you got from the Dream Castle here. This will prompt a Dried Sprout to drop and, out of the blue, a portal leading to Mickey’s Secret Room will spawn.
Head through it and, once you’re on the other side, follow the paw prints to find a Cheshire Catfish.

With all three items in hand, speak to the Cheshire Cat again. He’ll be a bit impressed, but reveal you’re missing once last ingredient.
“I’m small and round, crushed and ground. “A bean,” they say, “to start the day.”
This riddle refers to coffee beans, which you can get in the Glade of Trust after completing all of Stitch’s Friendship quests.
Once you do, head to a cooking station and place the Cheshire Catfish, the Dried Sprout, the Spoiled Milk, and the Coffee Beans to cook a Cheshire Cat Concoction.

“More solid than water, though may be its daughter. It stoppers the flow, and warmth is its foe.”
This riddle refers to ice. You’re supposed to fish the Frosted Heights.

So, the final step in this Friendship quest is to drink the Cheshire Cat Concoction to be able to fish the Cheshire Chest, which rewards you the Cheshire Cat Jacket and Gloves.
