Police in Sweetwater, Texas say a DoorDash driver helped uncover a hostage situation after raising the alarm over a delivery to a local motel on September 22.

DoorDash can be an easy way to make a few bucks on the side, but the app-based delivery service has had its fair share of viral moments. From a mixup that left a customer with two boxes of cheese from McDonald’s, to drivers delivering single salt packets from restaurants, delivery personnel never know what they’re going to drop off next.

According to KTAB and KRBC, the driver had delivered an order to a room at the Sweetwater Inn on Georgia Avenue around 11:30 a.m. and became suspicious. While officials did not disclose the exact items, witnesses reported the order included trash bags, zip ties, bleach, and a hatchet.

When officers responded to the motel, they found a man inside the room who refused to come out and claimed he was armed. Police also discovered a hostage inside, who was rescued but later arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant for drug distribution and for failure to identify.

The suspect has been identified as Neil Cooper, a man from Snyder, Texas. After a brief standoff with Sweetwater Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety, Cooper was arrested on warrants along with additional charges linked to the hostage incident.
