Meta is adding artificial intelligence to Facebook Dating in an effort to make finding love online less exhausting and more precise, without what it calls “swipe fatigue.”

The new tools include a dating assistant AI chatbot that helps users refine searches, boost their profiles, and even suggest date ideas.

For example, you can type, “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech,” and the assistant will pull relevant matches. Meta says the chatbot will be part of the Matches tab and is gradually rolling out in the US and Canada.

Alongside the chatbot, Facebook Dating is also introducing “Meet Cute,” a feature that automatically pairs you with a surprise match once a week using Meta’s personalized algorithm.

The company says it’s ideal for anyone tired of swiping and will help users expand their dating pool in a “fresh, easy way.” Meta is exploring options to adjust the frequency in the future.

Facebook takes aim at pay-to-win dating apps with free features

Meta notes that hundreds of thousands of young adults in the US and Canada create Facebook Dating profiles every month, and these AI upgrades are designed to help them meet more people without paying for premium perks.

This is sure to be a big hit with users who are looking to find like-minded individuals to chat or play Super Smash Bros with.

Meta is implementing AI in Facebook Dating.

The move comes after competitor Tinder made headlines in 2023 for unveiling a controversial $499 monthly subscription with exclusive benefits, a stark contrast to Meta’s pitch of accessible, no-cost AI matchmaking.

With its AI assistant and automatic weekly matches, Facebook Dating is betting that artificial intelligence can take some of the work and the fatigue out of modern online dating.
