Joey Chestnut turned a Giants vs Dodgers showdown into his own stage on September 12 by downing 275 Impossible Chicken Nuggets in nine innings.

Chestnut is best known for his dominance at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, where he holds the world record of 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. Earlier this year he added to his resume with a win at Canada’s World Poutine Eating Championship, polishing off more than 20 pounds of the dish in under 10 minutes.

The Bay Area native returned to the competitive eating spotlight in 2025 after a year-long ban from Nathan’s, which stemmed from a sponsorship conflict with Impossible Foods. His comeback reasserted his status as the sport’s biggest name, even as new contests and challenges continue to push the limits of his endurance.

Chestnut’s goal was to clear 99 Impossible Nuggets over the course of the game, but he demolished that target almost instantly. By the second inning he had already passed the milestone, and he didn’t slow down, powering past 150 by the third inning and eventually finishing with 275 by the time the game ended.

Equipped with dipping sauces and cups of warm water, Chestnut ate through a portion of the 2,000 nuggets supplied by Impossible Foods for the event. His only opponent was Jayson Toweh, a fan chosen through a nationwide search, but the atmosphere was more relaxed than the high-pressure July 4 stage at Coney Island.

He admitted the length of a baseball game added its own challenges, with throat muscles wearing down after hours of swallowing. Still, Chestnut said the flavor of the nuggets kept it manageable compared to tougher marathon foods.
