Mary Kate Cornett, the subject of a viral cheating scandal supposedly involving her boyfriend’s father, has spoken out alongside her family amid the ongoing rumors.
In February 2025, a rumor took over social media alleging that a University of Mississippi student named Mary Kate Cornett had allegedly cheated on her boyfriend, Evan, with his own father.
The claims first spread online from a photo of someone’s phone showing a series of messages on SnapChat, which detailed a supposed affair between Mary Kate and Evan’s father.
According to the message, Mary Kate attended a basketball game for Evan’s little sister alongside his dad. After the game was over, the message states they “went to like dinner and drinks, and he was buying her drinks and stuff, and then they like got with each other or something.”

The alleged cheating scandal has become a full-blown viral sensation over the last few days — and Mary Kate has finally offered a statement sharing her side of the story.
Mary Kate responds to “sick and demented” cheating rumors
A Facebook post published by Mary Kate’s father, Justin Cornett, dubbed the scandal surrounding his daughter as a “totally and categorically false, malicious, organized cyber attack.”
Her father also stated that Mary Kate has been doxxed, forcing her family to “take protective measures to ensure her safety.”
That’s not all; Justin Cornett also claimed that the family has filed police reports in Oxford and with the University of Mississippi, saying they were even contacted by the FBI.

“At this stage, we suspect this is some sort of fraternity prank that has mushroomed out of control,” Cornett wrote. “I refuse to let my family be targeted and am fully committed to pursuing all criminal and civil actions available.”
He went on to attach a statement from Mary Kate, who also dubbed the rumors as “categorically false and defamatory,” citing “edited screenshots, fake AI-generated videos and manipulated photographs” being used against her.
Mary Kate also said that she has received “thousands of harassing calls and texts of a sick and demented nature, some of which suggest I even take my own life.”
Ultimately, both Mary Kate and her father stressed that many victims of such cyber attacks do not have the resources to fight against such defamation, and have started a GoFundMe to establish a foundation to help victims in similar situations. The fund has raised over $11K at the time of publication.
“My heart breaks for the victims of defamatory cyber attacks and public doxxing like this,” Mary Kate wrote. “…I pray for the strength and courage to use this unwanted attention as a platform to help others whose lives have been turned upside down in similar circumstances.”
