Fortnite offers free V-bucks but only if you bought this skin

Mewoscles shocked at V-bucks

Fortnite just did the unthinkable: handed out free V-Bucks. But only to players who bought a very specific outfit.

Epic Games does not just throw V-Bucks at players. Usually, if you want them, you gotta buy them. Fortnite has given away V-Bucks before, but only when something went wrong – like server outages, messed-up purchases, or legal settlements. Otherwise, don’t count on it.

A player who purchased the Rap Boy Reloaded Outfit and the Air Jordan 3 SE Unite Kicks got a surprise: 1,000 V-Bucks.

Not because Fortnite is feeling generous, but because they shouldn’t have needed to buy the shoes. The outfit already comes with them. Epic’s system detected the redundant purchase and refunded the cost in V-Bucks.

Do Fortnite skins come with Kicks?

The short answer is yes. But it’s a bit more complicated than that.

Kicks – Fortnite’s new sneaker cosmetics – dropped on November 21, 2024. Over 500 skins got compatibility right away. Some skins come with shoes. Nike and Jordan led the charge, dropping big-name sneakers like the Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ and Air Jordan 3 ‘Black Cement-Grey’. Future updates will add even more compatible skins.

Naturally, the discovery sparked chaos. One player asked, “I have rap boy reloaded dose that mean I get the shoes for free.” while someone else wondered, “Does this mean I can have the shark shoes bc I have cozy chomps.”

Another speculated, “This absolutely rocks and will probably shut up a lot of people about kicks. If there are a bunch of skins that have shoes that can be worn, which I’ve got a gut feeling it’ll be quite a few of them especially the Nike type skins, everyone’s gonna have shoes.”

Right now, it’s unclear how far this “already-has-the-shoes” rule goes. Will every skin that visibly wears sneakers get them? Will outfits with shoe variants get both? Fortnite needs to answer these questions before the whole community starts testing refund requests. Otherwise, this could turn into Fortnite’s next big V-Bucks loophole.
