Epic Games just quietly removed a major feature from Fortnite’s competitive mode. Just poof – gone, like a bad drop spot.
Fortnite constantly evolves, adding new mechanics that range from fun gimmicks to features that change the game’s DNA. In Chapter 6 Season 1, Epic introduced Simple Edit.
This feature made building edits easier by automating them. Instead of selecting tiles manually, players could press a button, and the game would handle the details. It’s not hard to see how this was a big deal given how editing is one of Fortnite’s most skill-intensive mechanics.
But as of March 12, during Chapter 6 Season 2, it’s gone. Just over a season later, Epic removed Simple Edit from competitive Fortnite.
Simple Edit is gone from Fortnite Competitive
One day it was there. The next, competitive players logged in and realized they had to edit the old-fashioned way again.
Reactions came in quickly. Some players agreed with the decision, believing the feature had no place in high-level play.
“To be fair, Simple Edit shouldn’t be used for comp at all. Unfair advantages,” one player stated.
Others, especially those who had used the feature to improve, were disappointed. “Noooo… I was so close to hitting UNREAL because of it,” another lamented.
Some saw the change as a necessary return to traditional skill-based play, even if it meant struggling.
“Back to losing I go 🥲 but this is probably the right move lol,” a player admitted.
Meanwhile, others were surprised Epic actually acted on the complaints. “Wow, they actually listened,” one noted.
Casual players loved Simple Edit. It made learning edits easier and gave them a fighting chance against sweats. Some pros, though, weren’t thrilled.

They saw it as a crutch that undermined years of practice. Others worried it made high-level play too simple, removing the creative depth that separated the best from the rest.
Now that it’s gone, competitive Fortnite will feel different. Editing will take more time and precision. Players who relied on Simple Edit for quick builds will struggle. The skill gap between casual and pro players will widen again.
