Fortnite’s new proximity-chat mode is pure chaos as Epic bans thousands

Classic Fortnite character being eliminated during a match.

Following the launch of the new Delulu mode with proximity chat in Fortnite, devs have already banned thousands of players.

Fortnite’s new “Delulu” mode marks the first time that Epic has implemented proximity-based voice chat in a Battle Royale setting. This feature isn’t exactly new in the game, but before this, it was only available in creator-made maps in Creative.

This limited-time mode sticks to the classic last-man-standing formula, but with a twist: you can talk to anyone nearby, form alliances with an emote, or… betray them on the spot. It’s entirely up to you.

Of course, with proximity chat finally enabled, chaos was inevitable. However, Epic has already started cracking down on players who break the code of conduct.

Thousands of players are already banned after Fortnite released proximity chat

This past weekend alone, thousands of players were already banned, according to Epic in a post on X. “Remember to report voice chat behavior in-game that violates our community rules. This gives us evidence to quickly take action against rule breakers,” they wrote.

For the uninitiated, Delulu first went into early access for selected creators before it dropped to the public on September 19, 2025.

Many creators noted that they had a positive experience, with one claiming it is “some of the most fun” they’ve had in a BR game mode in years.

That early access period appeared relatively clean, since most players had creator codes, but once the mode opened up to the wider community, reports of toxicity and racist behavior began to spread across social media.

Still, some players say they welcome the chaos, as it essentially allowed Epic to “purge” the community of bad actors.
