How to get free Fortnite skins in September 2025

Three Fortnite characters alongside the text 'Free Fortnite Skins'

Epic Games’ hit battle royale Fortnite is known for its high-profile crossover skins as much as its fast-paced gunfights, but they can be quite expensive to buy, especially when it’s a well-known character like Godzilla or Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero.

So naturally, any chance to get free skins is welcome in the world of Fortnite, but they’re incredibly rare compared to other cosmetics like Gliders and Back Blings.

We’ve got you covered though, with all the information you need about free skins in Fortnite below, with details on every reward you can currently claim without needing to spend your V-Bucks or hard-earned cash in Chapter 6 Season 4.

All free Fortnite skins

With the addition of a new promotion with Borderlands 4 and a limited-time Cup, there are currently nine free skins available to claim for free in the current season.

To get the Elite Zadie skin for free, you’ll need to join the Elite Zadie Reload Cup, which is available from August 29 until August 30, 2025, and earn enough points to secure a top spot in your region.

This is a Duos-only cup, so if you prefer not to be teamed up with a random person, make sure to find a friend to join you.

As for the schedule, you can check the exact time by heading to the Compete tab, as it differs from one region to another.

Unlike the rest of the skins in this list, getting your hands on the GHOST Monks skin requires you to redeem a Fortnite gift card on your Epic Games account within a limited time frame. Do keep in mind that this offer is only exclusive to Fortnite’s new gift card, and not the older V-Bucks cards.

A closer look at the Sage skin, as seen in the PlayStation Plus page.

The Sage skin is the newest skin you can grab by subscribing to the PlayStation Plus, replacing the Shinji skin.

This does mean that it’s not technically free since you need to pay for the subscription. However, it is a nice bonus if you’d like to enjoy the platform’s subscription service. After all, you’ll also get additional cosmetics, including the Silver Mind Back Bling and the Sage’s Snap-Axe Pickaxe to complement the skin.

Depending on which plan you opt for, PlayStation Plus offers several options with different prices to choose from. Once your subscription is active, the pack will be available to claim in the PlayStation Store. After claiming it, the skin, as well as the other cosmetic,s will show up on your account.

Meanwhile, Explorer Emilie and Trailblazer Tai joined Fortnite with the launch of LEGO Fortnite in Chapter 5 and have been available ever since. Emilie can be unlocked by signing up for LEGO Insiders and linking it to your Epic account, while Tai is available for free by completing four simple quests in the blocky game mode.

With Chapter 6, the Mr. Dappermint skin was introduced, complementing Emilie, which can also now be claimed by linking your LEGO account.

Whenever more free outfits are added to the Battle Royale, we’ll add them to the table above.

In-game events

Completing event-specific challenges will earn you free skins and cosmetics, such as opening a certain number of presents during Winterfest.

The Save the World mode also provides opportunities to get free goodies, which may include skins and V-Bucks.

Tournaments

Occasionally, Epic Games will host themed tournaments for crossover characters, like Beast Boy or The Flash, alongside ICON Series skins for streamers like Chica.

The highest-ranking players in these exclusive tournaments can earn the skin for free before it goes on sale in the shop.

Fortnite crew

It may not technically be free, but players who subscribe to Fortnite Crew via the official website will receive heaps of rewards including new skins and matching cosmetics every single month. It costs $11.99 (or £9.99) a month.

You’ll also get access to the Battle Pass via the subscription, and receive 1,000 V-Bucks, Legacy skin styles, and Rocket Pass premium for Rocket League each month.

Codes

The last option is to use codes for free skins. However, it’s incredibly rare for these to become available in the game. They occasionally happen via official social media giveaways, so if any are shared by Epic Games in 2025, we’ll add them to this page.

It’s also important to be wary of searching for free codes online, as there are a lot of potential scams out there.
