Epic Games has removed Water Sprites from Fortnite after players discovered a duplicate glitch that basically provides infinite health and shield gain.
The battle royale added Air and Water Sprites at the start of Chapter 6, with the former acting as a throwable updraft while the latter heals and provides shields.
These adorable little creatures quickly became fan-favorite items, so much so that players have even requested backbling versions of them.
In a March 25 update, however, Epic unceremoniously removed Water Sprites from the game due to a duplicate glitch that some players had started taking advantage of.
Duplicate Sprites glitch in Fortnite explained
Fortnite-dedicated account HYPEX reported the removal of Water Sprites on Tuesday, March 25, saying the decision came down to an “infinite builds HP glitch.”
The bug in question, which has been shared on social media platforms like TikTok and Instragram, is a duplicate glitch that lets players spawn dozens of Water Sprites in the battle royale’s Build mode.
As shown in a clip by TikToker relishhtv, if a user in Builds throws one Water Sprite and picks up another at the same time, the Sprite will duplicate itself. When the previously thrown Sprite wakes up, the player can pick up another and repeat the process several times for an army of helpful little blue creatures.
It’s easy to see why Fortnite developers felt the need to remove the Water Sprites from the battle royale, given that players could glitch their way into an infinite source of heals and shields.
It remains to be seen when Epic plans to add Water Sprites back into the game. As of this writing, the studio has yet to formally address the issue.
A host of other changes went live on March 25 as well, thanks to Update 34.20 adding Fortnite OG Season 3 to the experience.
