Forza Horizon 6 release window & setting confirmed and it’s exactly what fans wanted

Forza Horizon 6

Forza Horizon 6, the next installment in Xbox’s popular street racing series, was officially unveiled at Tokyo Game Show, with a trailer that also confirmed the long-rumored Japanese setting.

It’s been nearly four years since we last got an entry in the Horizon series, and racing fans have been desperate for more. Their wishes were finally answered during Xbox’s showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2025, which ended with the first trailer.

No gameplay was shown, but it did confirm that the follow-up will be set in Japan and releases sometime in 2026.

Forza Horizon 6 arrives in 2026

The trailer was only a brief cinematic, which showed wristbands from previous Horizon festivals in the UK, Colorado, and more. But it ended with the reveal of the new logo, with Mount Fuji standing in the background.

While the Forza Motorsport series is more of a serious racing sim featuring official tracks, Horizon is the more light-hearted spin-off. Each game revolves around a car festival that takes over an entire region, allowing participants to race around on the streets.

With this in mind, Japan feels like an ideal setting thanks to its diverse locations, from snowy mountains and lakes to rural villages.

In a follow-up blog post on Xbox Wire, the devs also revealed that there will be urban environments, including a version of Tokyo.

“From the neon lights and towering buildings of Tokyo City – one of our most detailed and layered environments to date – to the serenity and natural beauty of Japan’s rural and mountain areas, we think players will be blown away by the open world of Japan that we have built,” they said.
