Avowed director reveals exciting plans for future DLC & expansion

Avowed character with a sword

Avowed is Obsidian’s latest RPG, showcasing a similar world design to The Outer Worlds and enough challenging choices to force even veteran gamers to consider their in-game actions. However, that story may not be over yet.

Diving into The Living Lands, you play as the Aedyran Envoy, chosen by the Emperor to extinguish a devastating plague that’s wiping out both the human and animal population of the region, therefore halting the Aedyran expansion. What follows is a series of loveable companions, stellar combat, and a world so rich you almost forget it’s not open-world.

Naturally, the game was well received, with our own review giving it a 4/5 and arguing that it has features every RPG should adopt. However, for those who have finished the main storyline, it seems the game may not be over just yet.

Avowed DLC likely according to director

As revealed in an interview with Bloomberg, Avowed director Carrie Patel shared her excitement for plans with the Pillars of Eternity offshoot, hinting towards future expansions, content, and perhaps a DLC.

Patel explained to Bloomberg: “Now that we’ve built this wonderful world, and also built this team strength and muscle memory around the content and gameplay in this world, I’d love to see us do more with it.”

Of course, the Obsidian team has been pretty quiet about any concrete plans for now, but from Patel’s comment, it’s clear this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Avowed, and it would be wise to expect some sort of DLC, new content, or expansion.

After all, Bloomberg claimed that Avowed “was worth the wait.” Players have raved about the game, and the company said it is “happy with sales so far” showcasing just how successful Avowed has been to Obsidian.

Naturally, the game is relatively new, so a concrete expansion or DLC is unlikely to happen soon, but from Patel’s comments, Avowed’s story is far from over.
