Matt Scronce, the design director at Treyarch, has addressed some concerns over Black Ops 7’s map sizes, revealing what the devs’ main thought is.
The countdown to Black Ops 7 launch is well underway, with Call of Duty fans getting ready to jump into the beta weekend come October 2. That will represent the first point at which everyone can finally get hands on with the new game.
When it comes to the maps and modes that fans can look forward to playing in the full game, the devs have already confirmed that there will be 16 6v6 maps at launch. We already know that three of these will be remakes of Hijacked, Express, and Raid, too.
YouTuber ThexclusiveAce pointed out that Treyarch has been avoiding mentioning Strike maps, the smaller-sized battlefields that some fans just absolutely love – and others love to hate.
Black Ops 7 will have some small maps & modes too
The YouTuber noted that if these maps aren’t in the game, then the Faceoff and Gunfight modes might be missing – at least at launch.
Well, it got on the radar of Treyarch’s Matt Scronce, who had an answer for anyone worried.
“Out of the 16 6v6 launch maps, 4 of those are smaller and support those modes, with new (+ some former faves) maps coming in post-launch,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“A change we’ve made for BO7 is to try and make sure those smaller maps can support Scorestreaks so they work for more playlists.”
The design director at Treyarch also not all of the smaller maps will feature in every playlist either.
“Not necessarily all of them, but the goal is that more CAN be supported which mainly comes down to aerial access for Scorestreaks. We don’t want to force it either way if the team has a cool idea that can’t support Scorestreaks,” he added.

Some fans have also asked for a setting that would allow them to ‘blacklist’ maps they don’t want to play in certain game modes. However, that would likely make populating games much slower and more difficult.
