Borderlands 4‘s release, while proving to be extremely popular, has experienced a fair amount of performance issues, with players reporting their games crashing, lag, and more. It’s thanks to this that Gearbox has decided that the Switch 2 version of the game will be delayed indefinitely.
As we said in our review, Borderlands 4’s story and gameplay were fantastic, but it was marred by frame drops, constant crashes, and frustrating performance issues. Well, fans have been experiencing the same problems, prompting kickback from the CEO and various patches to help make the game run smoother.
Now, those issues have been transferred to the upcoming Switch 2 edition of Borderlands 4, with Gearbox and 2K revealing that it has been delayed, and refunds are being issued.
Borderlands 4 delayed on Nintendo Switch 2
As shared on their X account, it was explained that “the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed.” Previously, the release was scheduled for October 3, but as of the time of writing, no new release date has been announced.

“We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that,” continued Gearbox, who mentioned adding cross saves to the upcoming edition.
They continued by explaining that they’ll “update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans,” meaning that while it doesn’t have a release date yet, one is coming.
Given that it has been indefinitely delayed, the developers have revealed that they are also offering refunds to all digital pre-orders, which will be cancelled and automatically refunded in the coming days.
According to the post, Borderlands is continuing to work on developing the Switch 2 version, but its release date has yet to be announced.
