Borderlands 4‘s world bosses are causing frustration among players, not because of their difficulty, but because of a despawn mechanic that can instantly end a fight and erase rewards.
There’s so much to do in Borderlands 4 alongside the main quests. You can go round killing all those annoying rippers (they fly too… not fun), unlocking Vaults, irritating the Timekeeper, leveling up Harlowe, Amon, Vex, or Rafa, or just speeding around on your vehicles.
However, on your journey, you may come across a strange bubble. No, this is not a safe area; in fact, it’s far from it. This is the location of the world bosses, which randomly pop up around the world and feature… You guessed it… a boss. Defeat it, and you gain tons of rewards, but take a small step out of that bubble, and it’s all over.
Fans have already had enough of Borderlands 4 world bosses
While that might sound like you’ve been killed, it’s actually a feature of these world bosses. See, if you step out of the bubble, even for a matter of seconds, the world boss will completely end and the enemy will despawn, so say goodbye to that sweet, sweet loot.
Now this is frustrating to say the least, and fans feel exactly the same way. In fact, many are demanding that Gearbox add “a 5-second time before world bosses despawn if you leave their dome.” A minor change, but one that would help players actually defeat these enemies, without worrying about watching where they’re gliding.
Others posed another idea to combat the issue: “Just make it solid until the encounter is clear. Cage match.” Now this is extremely Borderlands, essentially putting you in a trap until you either kill or be killed.
“This is such blantently bad design that the boss can knock you out and the encounter is over, this case was avoidable but theres several that may not be, and tbh you shouldnt have to care that much to constantly be on edge if youre getting too close to the side,” said another player, lamenting over the ability for a boss to push you out of the ring.
