Weekly Wildcard missions in Borderlands 4 are one of the most important parts of the endgame loop, so it’s important to stay up to date with what’s on this week.
Like Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine, Wildcard missions are tied to the game’s Ultimate Vault Hunter progression and appear once you have cleared key campaign milestones. The system can be confusing at first. Some players are not sure where to find the mission prompt, how often it refreshes, or if the rewards are worth the grind.
Still, the payoff is big. Weekly Wildcards don’t just drop XP, Eridium, and cash, they are also one of the most consistent sources of guaranteed legendary weapons in the game. Here is everything you need to know, including this week’s mission and rewards.
What is this week’s Weekly Wildcard mission?
The current Wildcard mission this week in Borderlands 4 is Shadow of the Mountain. It takes place in the Terminus Range region and begins with meeting Defiant Kelder before retrieving a relic from his old office. Along the way you’ll face the Sky Spanner boss.
- Start: Friday, September 18 at 12:00 a.m. EDT
- End: Thursday, September 25 at 11:59 p.m. EDT
This mission includes the modifiers Healthy, Chain Master, and Leaking. The completion reward is the Hellwalker legendary shotgun, a weapon that fires a powerful shot and plays music when picked up.
When does the Weekly Wildcard reset in Borderlands 4?
Wildcard missions reset every Friday at 12 a.m. EDT. That means all Vault Hunters, regardless of region, get access to the same mission rotation at the same time.
If you miss a week, there is no way to replay the previous challenge until it returns in the future.

How to unlock and start Weekly Wildcard missions
Wildcard missions become available once you finish the main campaign and progress into Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
They are tied into the rank system, appearing as repeatable challenges between boss clears.
To unlock Wildcard Missions in Borderlands 4, you first need to finish the main campaign to access Ultimate Vault Hunter (UVH).

After that, clear a few intro quests like Zane’s Firmware or Maurice’s Bounty, then complete the UVH challenges tied to your current rank. Once those are done, a Wildcard Mission will spawn on your map and is guaranteed.

Head to Lilith at Moxxi’s Bottoms Up to start it. Each UVH rank has its own Wildcard, so completing it is required to move up. For example, you must beat Rush the Gate at Rank 1 to unlock Rank 2.
