Date Everything is more than a “ridiculous concept” according to co-creator

Date Everything fridge

In Date Everything, you (literally) date everything. You’re given glasses that turn over 100 everyday items such as tables, toothbrushes, and fridges into sentient beings, and depending on your choices, you can fall in love or make enemies with them. It sounds bonkers but Robbie Daymond, one of its creators has told us that it is so much more than a quirky dating sim.

Given that the devs, Sassy Chap Games, were founded by talented voice actors Robbie Daymond, Ray Chase, and Max Mittelman, the roster of dateables is filled with recognisable (and new) talent. Indeed, Robbie (Persona) is part of a star-studded cast that features includes Matt Mercer (Critical Role), Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI), Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part 2), Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate 3), and other well-known voices.

They would be the first to admit that the idea of falling in love with a toilet called Jean Loo Pissoir (AKA Lil’ Crapper) is a ridiculous idea. The fact that you have to do that while stopping your boss’s ever more desperate attempts to get their ‘misplaced’ Dateviators back makes it even more fun. That said, there is a surprising amount of emotion on display. And not just laughter.

Robbie Daymond reveals the heart behind Date Everything

“A ridiculous concept executed at a high level,” is how Robbie Daymond described Date Everything to us. Part of its appeal is how it has “struck a good balance of like, saucy and naughty, but not explicit, not crazy, and not too scary.”

However, it is the characters that are the heart and soul of this surprisingly emotional adventure, and they, according to Daymond, will keep you playing once you’ve stopped laughing at the daft concept. It also doesn’t contain the crazy twists that perhaps turned some off similar dating adventure Doki Doki Literature.

“We think that this is a game that’s going to attract a lot of attention from people just out of curiosity, but we also don’t want to make everybody run away screaming, and crying, so I think we we struck a good balance.”

You see, Sassy Chap Games has focused on pouring touching moments into this dating sim, aiming to “subvert the expectations of satire and make something that fits right in the pocket.”

As you develop relationships with the game’s dateables, you’ll uncover deeper and more meaningful interactions with various good and bad endings. While the furniture may be dateable and filled with punny names, don’t let it fool you; this is still the kind of adventure to tug on your heartstrings.
