Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) is the fourth-generation game engine developed by Epic Games. Development began in 2003 under Tim Sweeney’s direction, and the engine was publicly unveiled at GDC 2012. UE4 was officially released on March 19, 2014, with full C++ source access and a new subscription model.
