Death Stranding 2 makes fighting bosses completely optional

Death Stranding 2 fighting a boss

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is already set to be a thrilling adventure much like its highly rated predecessor. However, it’s also featuring some rather controversial new elements, like the ability to avoid fighting bosses altogether.

Releasing June 26, 2025, there’s not long to go until Kojima Productions’ action adventure game Death Stranding 2 lands on the PlayStation 5. After its extremely successful predecessor was released with a stellar cast, the franchise quickly became a household name, so it’s clear there’s major hype for the sequel.

Now, in anticipation of its release, a brand new feature has been revealed to help aid those not as used to action games or those not wanting to fight.

Death Stranding 2 has feature to remove boss fights

During a recent Koji Pro radio broadcast, game director Hideo Kojima revealed that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach would have a new special feature that allows players to skip over boss battles if they so choose, removing the fight completely.

As explained by Genki_JPN on X, who translated the radio broadcast, when it comes to boss battles, “there will be an extra option on the game over screen below the ‘continue’ option,” which will allow you to simply clear the boss battle without a fight.

That being said, players won’t miss out on the battle entirely, as the option will instead show you an image and description of the battle you avoided “like a novel” to enable you to still experience the fight, just without the risk of dying or the actual combat itself.

Naturally, this has the community divided, with some commenting that it’s “modern day hand-holding.” However, most of the fanbase praised the addition, revealing how game-changing it would be for disabled gamers: “Probably helpful for disabled gamers who want to enjoy the story, or are unable to play difficult games due to a disability.”

Others saw this as a sign that the fights would have a higher difficulty as standard, commenting “hopefully this means the bosses will be hard on other difficulties” and “DS1 boss fights were easy enough already…..hopefully this means they increased the difficulty.”

How this looks in the final game is yet to be revealed, but it’s certainly going to make the game more accessible to players, even if not all fans agree.
