Everything we know about Dying Light: The Beast after PC specs revealed

Dying Light: The Beast is the next installment in the hit zombie game series and a sequel to 2022’s Dying Light 2.

Originally intended to be DLC accompaniment to the second game, The Beast’s scope ultimately expanded to become a standalone sequel.

With just a few weeks to go until the series’ third entry lands on consoles and PC, developer Techland attended Gamescom 2025 to provide a gameplay deep dive for the action-focused survival horror, which you can check out below.

Release Date

Dying Light: The Beast will be releasing on August 22, 2025.

Dying Light 2 came out in February 2022, meaning that the wait between games hasn’t been nearly as long as it was for the gap between the original and its sequel.

Trailers

With just a few weeks to go until release, Techland revealed a gameplay deep dive at Gamescom 2025. The focus this time was on showcasing The Beast’s parkour traversal, close-quarters combat against the undead, and exploration elements.

Dying Light: The Beast’s trailer at Summer Game Fest 2025 revealed its release date and some additional plot details about Kyle Crane’s story.

Techland also dropped a second trailer for the game at the 2024 Game Awards. The footage showcased what players can expect from the return of Kyle Crane, including some fast-paced parkour, menacing zombies and much more.

Plot details

Anyone who played the original’s award-winning DLC, The Following, may be surprised to hear that Kyle Crane will return to the franchise. After all, the end of the DLC makes it quite clear that Crane met his end and has been killed off, never to return again.

According to the game’s official synopsis on Steam, “Dying Light: The Beast is a thrilling standalone zombie adventure set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods, a once-popular tourist destination. 

“After 13 years of enduring experiments, you escape and hunt down your captors to seek retribution, only to discover there’s far more at stake.”

While the exact details of the plot are still unknown, early details for the game reveal it will largely be focused on revenge, with Crane seeking redemption after the events that led to his transformation.

Cast

Voice acting legend Roger Craig Smith, who has voiced the likes of Ezio from Assasin’s Creed and Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher franchise, will return to reprise the role of Kyle Crane. 

So far, no other actors have been confirmed for Dying Light: The Beast. However, be sure to check back in with this section, as we update it with all the latest casting news.

Gameplay

As expected, The Beast will allow players to traverse the world using high-octane parkour skills. Furthermore, the announcement trailer showcases gore and brutal combat, another staple of the franchise.

Similar to Dying Light 2, combat will further explore a less conventional combat system thanks to Crane’s more animalistic side, with hand-to-hand combat once again the key to success when taking down both the undead and humans who get in your way.

Ultimate Editions owners get The Beast for free

As The Beast was originally intended to be DLC2 for Dying Light 2, Techland has revealed that anyone who owns the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 Stay Human will get access to The Beast at no extra cost when it releases.

If you’re a fan of the original and have yet to check out the sequel, it’s well worth investing in the Ultimate Edition going forward so you can experience Kyle Crane’s next adventure for free in future!
