Forza Horizon 5 was one of Microsoft’s biggest updates at Gamescom 2021, with more information revealed about both gameplay and cars. With details on Mexico’s map, biomes, features, and that all-elusive release date, there’s lots to get excited about.

The game’s current entry, Forza Horizon 4, has enjoyed a wealth of content in its tracks since it launched in 2018. With more than two years of development time, the studio is now making the leap to a fifth iteration in the series. In the midst of the long wait up to the reveal, we’ve previously seen some hints of the overall map that drivers can expect to traverse in the wide-open map that the studio has been known to craft for every Forza Horizon entry. While little is known about the track-centric Forza Motorsport, these details about Forza Horizon 5 are incredibly exciting.

Microsoft Studios’ Forza Horizon 5 will be released on November 5, 2021 – as confirmed during the E3 2021 show.

As expected, the title will drop on both Xbox Series X|S and PC, with available crossplay. From launch, the game will also be able to any players with Game Pass.

With Forza Horizon 5 releasing in just under a week, the official launch trailer has players excited and hungry for more. During E3 2021, we finally got the first official look at the beautiful landscape we’ll be able to traverse in Horizon 5’s Mexico setting.

From stunning vistas and even better-looking vehicles to diverse weather effects, there’s something for everyone to get excited about. The devs also shared with us an in-depth look at the upcoming gameplay, detailing everything from graphical improvements to new game modes.
At Gamescom 2021, fans were treated to an 8-minute clip featuring the astonishing intro sequence to the game. With a stellar soundtrack, high-octane action, and buttery smooth cutscene transitions, there’s more and more to get excited about with each subsequent look at the game.

For players who have been invested in previous Forza titles, there will be many free cars available in the form of loyalty rewards. In order to receive these loyalty rewards, you only have to play a couple races to level up, and the cars should be delivered to your inventory. The game

gives players plenty of features to make this entry the best we’ve seen yet. Microsoft says that we can “lead breathtaking expeditions across the vibrant and ever-evolving open-world landscapes of Mexico with limitless, fun driving action in hundreds of the world’s greatest cars.”

There’s a variety of incredibly realistic weather effects to drive around in.
All of the features that have been confirmed so far are:

  • Volumetric lighting system.
  • Weather effects.
  • Meet up with friends for a drive.
  • An “honest, authentic” recreation of Mexico.
  • Real-life recreations of points of interest, such as murals.
  • Huge viewing distances.
  • A focus on one of Mexico’s cities most beautiful cities, Guanajuato.
  • Dynamic, realistic lighting that changes every frame.
  • Forza Link: A new AI assistant that tracks players to allow them to easily play together.

A staggering 11 different biome types have been revealed for Forza Horizon 5, taking players through many different styles of locations, whether they’re on a leisurely drive or looking to head into a race. In alphabetical order, these are:

  • Living Desert
  • Rocky Coast
  • Sand Desert
  • Swamp
  • Tropical Coast
  • Urban City of Guanajuato
  • Volcano

With such a varied variety to drive through and explore, Forza Horizon 5 continues to reveal features that push the incredible Forza Horizon 4 even further.

While it was evident in the trailer that weather is going to play a key role in how the map of Forza Horizon 5 is going to look, during the most recent developer insight they talked about this feature more.

Art Director, Don Arceta spoke on how they’ve wanted to incorporate these features for quite some time, “Storm chasing was a big thing in our plans when we were starting the project.” We know we will be seeing dust storms, and lightning storms within the game, and the map will always be changing depending on the type of storm going on.

The new title has some fantastic new (and returning) game modes to take part in.
We finally have some idea as to what content we’ll be looking at in Forza Horizon 5. So far, we know that players can take part in:

  • A Battle Royale mode.
  • Piñata Pop: A mini-game that tasks players to pop as many piñatas as they’re able while driving.
  • Street races.
  • Expedition Mode: A new mode gives that players the chance to create their own game modes and races.
