France’s President praises French-made Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for successful launch

French President Emmanuel Macron has praised French-made game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, congratulating the devs on their global success.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been one of the surprise hits of 2025, garnering widespread recognition amongst RPG fans and critics alike. Our review rewarded it 5 stars for its excellent story, beautiful graphics, and addictive turn-based combat.
Three days after its April 24 release, Clair Obscur had sold over a million copies and became the highest-rated game of 2025. To say it has been a success would be an understatement – there’s even a live-action film in the works.
And now, French President Emmanuel Macron even heaped praise on the turn-based title.
French President praises Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
On May 1, the official Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Instagram account posted an update, explaining that it’s been a pleasure to see players from all over the world experiencing the game.
However, among the post’s comments was a reply from the French President. “A million copies and to this day one of the best-rated games in history: and yes, it’s French!” Macron wrote.

“Congratulations to Sandfall Interactive and all the creators of Expedition 33. You radiate boldness and creativity in French.”
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 currently has a Metacritic score of 92, putting it directly ahead of Blue Prince, despelote, and Split Fiction. The turn-based title also reached its all-time peak player count on April 27, with 121,422 players on Steam alone.
