Ghost of Yotei’s $80 digital deluxe edition is currently the most pre-ordered game on the PS Store in the US, proving many players are willing to pay more money for their favorite titles.

On May 2, Ghost of Yotei pre-orders went live, allowing players from around the world to pre-purchase the upcoming adventure game. As originally reported by PushSquare, Ghost of Yotei’s digital deluxe edition is currently the most pre-ordered release on Sony’s storefront in both the US and UK

Even more surprisingly, the $79.99 edition is currently outpacing the game’s standard edition, which is priced at $69.99. While Ghost of Yotei’s digital deluxe version comes with some bonuses, namely the Snake Armor and Sword kit, the popularity of the premium edition is odd given the recent backlash over video game price hikes.

The controversy surrounding the price of games originally stemmed from the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, when the Japanese video game company revealed that Mario Kart World and other titles would set players back $80.

As you can imagine, this didn’t go down well with Nintendo and video game enthusiasts, with many calling out the decision. Since then, there have been fears that Sony and Microsoft would follow the price hike trend – an area Former PlayStation Boss Shuhei Yoshida said is inevitable

During an interview with PlayStation Inside, Yoshida was asked about the recent decision from Nintendo to raise the prices on games like Mario Kart World.

“I think it was going to happen sooner or later, maybe not from Nintendo, but it was going to happen eventually,” he said. “We live in contrasting times, where inflation is real and significant, but people expect games that are ever more ambitious and therefore expensive to develop to cost the same. It’s an impossible equation.”
