Ghost of Yotei’s co-creative director has revealed that GTA 6’s delay was such a huge relief that it sparked a celebration worthy of a hangover.

Ghost of Yotei has long been billed as one of Sony’s biggest releases of 2025, but its road to launch looked far more daunting before Rockstar reshuffled its calendar. GTA 6 had originally been set for late 2025, a release window that would have put it uncomfortably close to Ghost of Yotei’s October debut.

Facing Rockstar’s juggernaut would have meant competing for attention in one of the toughest slots imaginable. However, when the game was later pushed back to May 26, 2026, the pressure disappeared overnight, leaving Sucker Punch with a clear path forward and, according to its co-creative director, plenty of reason to celebrate.

GTA 6 delay led to a huge party for Ghost of Yotei devs

Speaking on MinnMax, Ghost Yotei’s co-creative director, Nate Fox, revealed the team popped bottles like true rockstars. “We’re all still hungover, multi-month hangover…That was a great day,” he said.

With Rockstar’s juggernaut out of the fall window, Ghost of Yotei now has room to breathe and a clearer shot at grabbing the spotlight with its October release.

While Yotei may have more attention on it, fall 2025 remains crowded with heavyweight launches. September sees the return of fan-favorites like Borderlands 4 (September 12), Silent Hill: f (September 25), and that’s not to mention the record-breaking release of Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight: Silksong.

October brings even more muscle in the form of Battlefield 6 (October 10), Pokemon Legends: Z-A (October 16), Ninja Gaiden 4 (October 20), and The Outer Worlds 2 (October 29), all lining up to challenge attention spans.
