Hollow Knight becomes August’s most-played Steam Deck game amid Silksong hype

Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight was the most-played game on Steam Deck in August, Valve has confirmed. The indie hit continues to hold attention years after launch, and its popularity surged as anticipation grew for its long-awaited sequel.

Silksong, the follow-up from Team Cherry, is set to release on September 4. The game has been in development for years, with fans eagerly awaiting the chance to play as Hornet in a new adventure.

Hollow Knight’s performance on Steam Deck comes after a wave of renewed interest across Steam. The first game in the series almost immediately skyrocketed in popularity with the reveal of Silksong’s release date, quickly reaching 20k players in just days. On September 1, Steam Charts reported that the number grew to over 71k.

Silksong builds momentum

The upcoming sequel will launch across multiple platforms, including Steam, on September 4. Players will take on the role of Hornet, exploring a new kingdom with expanded movement options and combat abilities.

Silksong was first revealed in 2019 and was originally planned as downloadable content before evolving into a full sequel. The developers remained quiet on their progress during development, frustrating thousands of fans in the process.

During an interview in August, however, Team Cherry revealed that Silksong took so long to create because the team couldn’t stop making cool stuff that they wanted to add.
