Hollow Knight: Silksong gets multiplayer mod days after launch

Silksong multiplayer

A Silksong modder built a Steam only multiplayer tool so your friends can laugh at your failed diagonal pogo attempts.

Hollow Knight Silksong launched on September 4, 2025, as the continuation of Team Cherry’s single-player Metroidvania formula. Both Hollow Knight and Silksong were designed around solo play, and both have thrived without needing co-op.

Team Cherry never announced or even hinted at multiplayer. That did not stop players from experimenting. The original Hollow Knight had HKMP, a fan-made multiplayer mod, and now Silksong has its own version.

Silksong’s multiplayer mod created in four hours

Modder XvX released a Steam only multiplayer mod on Nexus. Although it was uploaded on September 9, they explained it took only four hours to make. The delay, they admitted, was because “Delta Force is so fun you know.”

The project delivered simple online functionality, basic PvP, and room-based sessions. This means you can play with friends cooperatively and even engage in fun battles against each other. Just don’t expect enemies to feel balance now that there’s two of you poking holes in them.

Setup is blunt and easy: unzip the files into the game’s root directory, create a room in the main menu, invite friends, then load your save. A configuration file inside BepInEx handles PvP settings, if you want to customize them even more.

The mod synced players and showed their positions when maps were opened, though the creator noted quirks they intended to refine. It was more about showing off and spectating than full co-op progression. Players joked about the awkwardness. One comment read, “Noo I don’t want to share a bench with you.”

Silksong’s opening week mixed record-breaking player numbers with a fast-moving community mod scene. The four-hour prototype already teased potential for future co-op experiments and structured PvP events.

While Team Cherry focused on patches that reduced early difficulty, the community busied itself with mods that added multiplayer, lowered double damage, and even let Hornet teleport across the map.
