Silksong is finally here, and its player count has skyrocketed past 550,000 players just hours after the game was released.
After years of waiting, Hollow Knight: Silksong was finally released on September 4, 2025. As soon as the 10 am EST launch time hit, however, almost every shop where it is available for purchase on crashed.
Despite many issues with buying the game, some have managed to get into the sought-after Metroidvania.
On its second day, Silksong on Steam flew to over 555,000 players – surpassing its day one peak early in the morning.

Hollow Knight player count skyrocketed ahead of Silksong’s release
Just hours after the reveal of Silksong’s release date back in August, fans flocked to Steam to pick up the original. Some were playing it again, while others were checking it out for the first time.
Within days, the player count continued to jump until it peaked at over 71,000 players just days before the sequel’s release.
And, that’s just on Steam. Both Hollow Knight and its new sequel are available on Xbox Game Pass, Switch, and PlayStation – meaning the player count for both games is much higher than we can see.
