Team CherryHollow Knight Silksong devs planted a bench that’s unlike any other in the game which has led many to their doom.
Despite its vibrant, cartoonish art style, it’s safe to say the Hollow Knight: Silksong experience is far from a charming one. Beneath it all, the 2D Metroidvania title from Team Cherry is notoriously hard, even for experienced players.
One simple mistake, whether that be a mistimed dodge or counterattack, could lead you to your death. That’s why spotting a bench after a brutal fight often feels like stumbling upon water in the middle of a desert.
In Silksong, benches act as checkpoints. These are places where you can heal, respawn, and catch your breath before pressing on. There’s one big twist, however, as clearly not every bench can be trusted.

Since Silksong’s release, many players have been victims of one particular “evil” bench found in Hunter’s March. Tucked away in a corner, sitting on this bench will trigger a spiked trap that immediately swings at you and can even kill you if you’re low on health.
Just when you think the game couldn’t get any crueler, Team Cherry throws this devious trick into the mix. On one hand, it’s frustrating to imagine you made it all the way to this place just to die and do it all over again.
Though at the same time, this special bench has ended up pulling some of the most hilarious reactions from players online.
As countless clips show, many unlucky adventurers thought they’d found a glimmer of hope… only to discover it was a trap waiting to crush them.

Luckily, it’s possible to sit on the bench without getting a chunk of your health gone. You’ll just need to disarm the trap first.
To do so, walk over to the left side of the bench. Then, swing your needle towards the lever to deactivate the trap. Once that’s done, you’ll finally be able to sit down and heal on the bench with a peace of mind.
