You can dismantle any unwanted gear in Last Epoch to clear space and save resources, but it’s not as simple as hitting a button.
Last Epoch absolutely showers players with loot, with a shiny new weapon or piece of armor hiding around every corner. But the more mobs you slay and dungeons you crawl through, your inventory can quickly become clogged with unwanted items.
Luckily, there is a way to dismantle and salvage any gear you want to get rid of, and you can even use the leftover resources to improve your favorite weapons. Here’s how to do it.
Dismantling items explained
To dismantle items in Last Epoch, you need to find a Rune of Shattering. This special ingredient is required to disenchant and salvage any of your items, as it permanently destroys and offers you Affix Shards in return.
Once you have one, head to the nearest forge and follow these steps:
- Approach the forge.
- Select the item you want to dismantle.
- Click “Use A Modifier Item.”
- Choose the Rune of Shattering.
- Hit “Shatter.”
- Collect your Affix Shards.

Just make sure that you only do this on items you know you don’t need, such as lower-level weapons or any gear that doesn’t fit your build, because once you shatter them, they’re gone for good.
It’s also worth noting that you can’t dismantle Unique Equipment, Set Equipment, or Legendary Equipment, but anything else is fair game.
The number of Affix Shards handed out is completely random. Depending on the item you dismantle, you’ll receive anywhere between one and the tier of its affix. So, the better the equipment, the better chance you have of salvaging more Affix Shards.
How to get Rune of Shattering
Runes of Shattering can be purchased from most vendors scattered around the map, especially in more heavily populated towns. However, they can be quite expensive, so make sure you’ve got enough gold to spare before buying one.

Also, most vendors will only have a handful in stock at any given time, so you’ll have to stop by multiple sellers if you’re planning on scrapping a lot of items at once.
