Rematch, the third-person perspective 5v5 soccer game, releases on June 19, but you can play early through the closed beta.
Developed by Sloclap, the studio that made Sifu, Rematch has often been described as Rocket League without cars. Instead of the top-down view you’d expect from a soccer game like EA Sports FC, it puts you in control of an individual player from the third person.
The first beta was a roaring success with 1.3M players signing up, so if you want to give it a try yourself, here’s how to play May’s closed beta.
When is the Rematch beta?
The Rematch closed beta runs from Wednesday, May 28, until Saturday, May 31.
It runs for 72 hours, starting at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET / 1 PM BST on May 28 and ending at the same time on May 31.
How to play Rematch closed beta
Since it’s a closed beta, access isn’t guaranteed, but you can register for a chance on Steam or their official website.
- Head to the official Rematch website.
- Select your preferred platform (you can select as many as you like) and hit OK.
- Enter your email address and hit OK again.
- Fill in your details, such as your name and country.
- Agree to receive newsletters via email and click Submit.
- Find the email from Sloclap and hit ‘Confirm Subscription.’
- Wait for your beta code to arrive.
If you’d prefer to go directly through Steam, here’s what you need to do:
- Find the Rematch page on the Steam Store.
- Hit ‘Request Access’ under ‘Join the REMATCH Playtest.’
- That’s it! The devs will send you an email if you’re one of the lucky ones.
They said that “starting on the 29th, we will progressively open direct access (no sign-ups required) on PlayStation & Steam,” if the servers are holding up, but it Xbox will remain limited due to “due to certification deadlines.”
“Keys from the previous beta are still valid,” so if you played last time, you’ll be able to jump in again.
Platforms
The Rematch closed beta is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The first beta was PC-only, but following a short console technical test on May 9, the next closed beta will include all platforms.
Does Rematch have crossplay?
It’s not clear whether it’ll have crossplay, with the devs unable to confirm whether it’ll be there at launch either.

In a Discord message in April, one of the devs, nobugz, said, “we’re doing our best efforts to have cross platform Day 1 but I can’t confirm it yet unfortunately. If we don’t manage it at launch, it will be made available in an update very soon after – as soon as possible actually.”
