Almost all of RuneScape Dragonwilds’ natural resources can be processed into important, multi-purpose materials, and getting access to Ash Planks should be near the top of your priority list.
Like Padded Cloth, Adhesive, and Hard Leather, you won’t find Ash Planks just lying around in the wilds of Ashenfall – they must be processed from Ash Logs using a Sawmill, and that handy contraption won’t be unlocked by default, either.
There’s some legwork involved in getting your very own wood workshop up and running, but once you’ve followed all the necessary setup, you’ll have enough Ash Planks to start building more advanced processing stations and housing components.
How to make Ash Planks
To unlock the recipe to build a Sawmill, you’ll need to reach the Fractured Plains. You’ll naturally wind up here by following the story, but nothing is stopping you from heading to the area whenever you want. Head North from Bramblemead and through the Whispering Swamp to reach the biome.
Before heading to the Fractured Plains, we recommend gathering all the necessary materials to craft at least two Lodestones to make return trips faster and safer.
- Reach the Fractured Plains
- Mine Copper & Tin ore to make Bronze Bars
- Build a Sawmill
- Deposit Ash Logs into the Sawmill
- Use Ash Planks for additional upgrades
Reach the Fractured Plains for Copper & Tin ore
Once you’ve reached the Fractured Plains, you’ll need to mine some Copper & Tin ore. Deposits of both are scattered far and wide, but we’ve circled a location on the map below right next to where you first enter the Plains for easier access.

Do note that you’ll want to come equipped with combat gear to fend off Garou troops, Wolves, and Terrorbirds.
Once you’ve gathered around 20 of each ore, head back to your base to process your Copper & Tin into Bronze Bars using the furnace. This will require Charcoal as fuel, obtained by burning Ash Logs in a Kiln.

Construct a Sawmill & process Ash Logs

With all that prep completed, use the following materials to build your Sawmill:
- Ash Logs x18
- Bronze Bar x4
- Stone x8
Identical to other crafting stations, interacting with the Sawmill will prompt you to input a resource, which, in this instance, will be Ash Logs. The Sawmill can process a stack of 50 Ash Logs, with every set of logs producing two planks.
What are Ash Planks used for?

Ash Planks are necessary components for several advanced recipes, including, but by no means limited to, additional crafting stations such as the Cooking Range, and upgrades to existing builds. The Tanner’s Kit, for example, requires 18 Ash Planks in addition to other materials and expands the available list of crafting options at the Tannery.
