How to respec in Borderlands 4

While Borderlands 4 is a looter-shooter where you’ll always be looking for the next best weapon, you’ll also want to make sure you’re picking the best skills for your chosen character.

While it can be down to personal preference, you don’t want to ignore the best builds for Harlow, Amon, Vex, and Rafa. But if you’re not happy with your choices so far, don’t worry, as you can respec your character’s skills.

Here’s everything you need to know about Borderlands 4’s respec mechanic, including how and where to do it.

How to unlock respec in Borderlands 4

You’ll need to have completed the third main mission, Down and Outbound, to find your first Respec machine at The Launchpad. This shouldn’t take too long, as it’s quite early in the game.

You’ll find The Launchpad’s Respec machine inside the main building beside a Lost Loot Machine and a Bank.

How to reset Skill points

To respec your skill points in Borderlands 4, you’ll need to head to one of the Respec Machines and spend cash. The price depends on how much cash you have, but money is quite easy to come by anyway, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

These can be found in any major town, but you’ll come across the one at The Launchpad first when playing through the story.

Once you’ve spent your cash to open up the machine, you can either respec a specific tree or respec everything. What you pick depends on what you want to do, but don’t back out until you’re happy with your choices. You can respec as often as you like on this menu, but if you back out, you’ll need to pay to start the process again.

How to respec Specialization points

You respec Specialization points at the Respec machines too, but it costs Eridium. You can farm Eridium by completing Bounty board contracts.

Once you’ve beaten the campaign, you’ll be able to level up one of the four Specialization branches (Survivor, Brute, Sharpshooter, and Runner), but if you’re unhappy with any of your choices, bring your Eridium to any Respec machine and you can reset it and pick new choices.

Respec machines are marked on the map with an icon showing a person’s head inside a triangle that resembles the recycling logo.
