How to unlock Act 3 in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Grand Mother Silk Silksong

Hollow Knight Silksong is comprised of three major acts, but getting to the final one isn’t easy, unless you know how to unlock it.

Very little about Silksong is actually easy. Its combat is arguably harder than its predecessor, prompting Team Cherry to step in with a handy patch. On top of that, it’s filled with hidden collectables, wishes, upgrades, and more for you to discover, all while nearly being decimated by enemies.

Well, this extends to the main story, too. Specifically, Act 3, which you’ll have to actively discover and unlock if you want to complete the game. So, if you’re close to the end of Act 2, here’s how to finally get those credits rolling.

Complete Silk and Soul

Collect items for the trap

Once you’ve collected all the Wishes, head to Pavo in Bellhart. Doing so will give you a Bellhome. Once you’ve done this, collect 25 fleas and head to Fleamaster Mooshka. You’ll need to move them up to three times to place them in the Putrefied Ducts.

Silk and Soul Silksong

Next, head to Sonclave and speak to the Caretaker, who will share his plan and enact the Silk and Soul quest.

With that, you’ll need to collect four trap components:

Related

  • Maiden’s Soul: Sit on the Bench in Bone Bottom, speak to the Maiden, and beat the second Skull Tyrant.
  • Hermit’s Soul: Destroy the fake wall on the right of Bellhard Bellway and locate the Bell Hermit.
  • Seeker’s Soul: Located at the abandoned bellhome on top of Bilewater.
  • Snare Setter: Grab the item from the table above the bench in Weavenest.

Once you’ve got those, head back to the Caretake and prepare the trap.

Fight Grand Mother Silk

With that, head over to The Cradle and begin to prepare for your battle. The Caretaker will let you know the trap is set.

Needolin Silksong

Once you’ve fought Grand Mother Silk, it’s important that you choose the option to play the Needolin. This will unlock Act 3 instead of ending the story. With that, you’re in the next act, but no spoilers here.

Fastest way to unlock Act 3

All of that is certainly complicated (that’s the point), but there’s an easier way to get to Act 3 if you prefer not to go through all that.

A mod called Start Act 3 Abyss and Snared Silk Achievement will let you trigger Act 3 instantly. Sure, it’s not really the most morally correct way to do it, but it’s great if you missed Act 3 and ran straight to the credits without knowing.

So, that’s all you need to know about how to unlock Act 3 in Hollow Knight Silksong. While exploring the world looking for the trapped items, be sure to check out how to get the Reaper Crest, or how to upgrade your Needle.
