Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a deeply immersive experience, but its inconsistent rules regarding stealing still baffle players, even weeks after its release.
If you’ve spent much time with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’ve undoubtedly fallen foul of its odd rules governing what counts as stealing and what doesn’t. Even the laws around trespassing can be confusing, depending on the circumstances, as even knowing what bed to sleep in can be a minefield.
For example, in one playthrough, after we left the lovely herb lady to go in search of her daughter, we returned to the shack to rest only to be accused of trespassing once she saw us. A character who nursed us back to health and let us sleep in her bed for several days was now threatening to call the guards on us for doing the same thing.

Don’t touch the food!
In another case, a group of dancers invited us to share their campfire for the night, we joined them and exchanged pleasantries. They were happy for us to sleep in a nearby bedroll and there was a tasty bowl of stew bubbling away in a pot over the fire, but the moment we took a taste the camp erupted in fury.
We attempted to smooth things over but to no avail, daggers were drawn and things took an even more unpleasant turn when our dog mauled one of the dancers while defending us. We ran into the night but by the time we reached the nearest settlement, news of our crime had spread and the guards were waiting with swords in hand.
Our poor bewildered Henry was soon cut down for taking that mouthful of stew. Luckily, we had a save file from just before everything went wrong, but the lesson was learned. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is full of these little stories, just look at how things went so wrong for Asmongold when he pressed the wrong button – accidentally murdering an NPC in front of a whole town.

Trespassing and stealing
While these moments can be very funny, they can also be frustrating and can ruin the immersion of an otherwise excellent game for some. Posting to Reddit one player pointed out that after they completed the Roma questline they were invited to join the camp as a brother, but when celebrating around the campfire, they too were unable to eat from the pot without being accused of stealing.

They said, “This irks me. I became a gajo-brother, savior of the Roma people, and I am always welcome in the camp, yet I can’t touch that pot when everyone’s having dinner.”
Another player agreed that the mechanic was odd, saying, “This is the biggest thing that really annoyed me. Like, I literally helped out BIG TIME and you can’t give me food? Plus when you sleep in the wrong bed and you instantly get guards called on you, instead of like, asking you to move to your own bed? This is especially stupid in this camp and inns.”
Others reported more strange encounters with the theft or trespass system, one saying, “The bed in Miskowich Inn is in a trespass area. So I went to bed, in the right bed, and in the middle of the night, a guard wanted to throw me in the stock.”
While others had humorous stories like, “I accidentally ate from the pot of food in the kitchen at the wedding, and they beat me to death”, or how after they spent the night with one of the game’s romance options, they were then attacked as a trespasser the next morning.
Some players feel like Warhorse Studios are likely to patch the punishing and at times, bizarre thievery and trespassing systems. However, others may argue that like games like Skyrim, Kingdom Come’s oddities and quirks are part of what makes it so endearing.
